A tea thread as requested...Gear, Teas etc.
I've only really developed a taste for tea in the last couple of years, I was always a coffee man, I still enjoy good coffee but tea is my main drink now. I find it's also a little gentler on my fragile digestive system, I don't drink a huge amount, maybe three or four cups a day but the same amount of coffee would upset my giblets.
I know PG Tips is hardly a high end blend but the balance of flavours suits me well. I also like Yorkshire tea, the stronger, richer taste makes for a cup for me to savour but too much of it sets off my dodgy innards again. PG is usually served up in my favourite mug but I like to use a nice bone china cup for the Yorkshire, I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I did once read a thin walled cup allows you to take in more air as you drink which enhances the flavour, feels a bit posher anyway lol. I once tried peppermint tea but just one sip was enough for me.
Yes it's gentler I think. Probably better for you too.
This is ginger green tea, brewed at 85c for 3mins. A spoon of honey to sweeten the deal.

Rather nice. twinings teabag i think it was.
My father in law always insisted on bone china for tea - It does seem to be the right way to take it (although I'm not averse to a big mug of Yorkshire tea - milk, no sugar please:))
ive got some bone china stuff but cant find it.. i must have put it somewhere safe
I just got in some tea from whittard of Chelsea just now.
Lovely packaging I have to say, including the carriage box, and all is recyclable too.
Came fairly quickly. Not sure if it's great value but we will see what quality is like over weekend hopefully.
Roobios, puerh and jade oolong.

Good idea having a separate thread for nice teas!:)
However, guys, could we please ensure that, much like the coffee and food threads, that this one is PICTURE HEAVY, so get yer cameras out! I want to see lots of pics of people's teas, not just dialogue about it, hokey dokes? Ta!
Marco.
Yeah, you guys are closely related aren't you?:D
Marco.
I got wind of his abilities on the 70's [emoji23]
Might I direct the attention of Infuseophiles to Orwell's essay A Nice Cup of Tea, published in the London Evening Standard, Saturday January the 12th 1946..
Lol... you'd probably say that about coffee, too. YET - this thread has had nearly 200K hits and 4K replies: https://theartofsound.net/forum/show...arista-Bariste
:ner:;)
Plus... Much like food, it's HOW it's presented, in terms of the crockery used, etc - and Grant's making the required effort. I'll join in tomorrow with some nice Darjeeling in my lovely 1940s vintage bone china cups and saucers!:D
Bought cheaply from a charity shop, I hasten to add....
Marco.

In the above Orwell claims there are 11 points to the making of "a nice cup of tea". I don't agree with them all:
[1] Not necessarily - some of the finest (nicest) tea I have drunk was some leaf tea I brought back from Burma. Also black Russian tea is very good. Tea doesn't have to only come from India, Ceylon or China to be good.
[2] Agreed
[3] No, a glass tea pot is also fine, and although Orwell doesn't mention it, a tea cosy should be used to keep the tea in the pot warm
[4] No - it's a matter of taste. I prefer my tea weak, so I don't let it brew for too long.
[5] Don't agree - 'filter style' teapots are fine
[6] No - the water should be just off the boil. Boiling water 'scalds' the leaves and impairs the flavour
[7] Agreed
[8] Possibly
[9] Agreed
[10] Agreed
[11] Agreed
Lol... I couldn't be bothered reading through all that, so I've no idea what you're agreeing and disagreeing with!;)
Marco.
I couldn't find a way of making an image of the pdf file of Orwell's essay - but then you are not interested with reading anyway.
Lol - it's an interesting piece, Barry, but before I read what you'd written properly and clicked on the link, I was expecting 11 'bullet points', outlining 'How to make the perfect cup of tea', which I could then cross-reference against your replies, but when I was faced with those reams of text [said 'essay'], to have to plough through first and find what you were referring to, the lazy-ass in me said 'No'...:D;)
Marco.
Hmmm - "the good the bad and the ugly" IMO.
The Good: Formosa Jade Oolong. A lovely cup, but must be drunk without milk (as should all fine teas)
The Bad: Pu'Erh. Well I am being a bit critical here, but I don't like fermented teas and also Pu'Erh is high in caffeine.
The Ugly: Blueberry Rooibos. Fruit-flavoured teas are the spawn of Devil as far as I'm concerned; pity as Rooibos is one of my favourite teas, and is virtually caffeine free.
Addendum - Whittard are good, established coffee and tea importers, so I would have any doubts over the quality of their products.
In my yoof, we never had coffee in the house, only loose tea.
I had it with 3 heaped teaspoons of sugar and at the end drank the tea leaves with the sugar....slurp.
Now - only either drink rooibos or herbal tea - can drink 'normal' tea but need sugar to take away the bitterness.
Never touch coffee (never liked it) - find the taste just yuck
Do you like warming, spicy wintery flavours, such as a cinnamon and ginger? If so, this will hit the spot, as it's absolutely gorgeous: https://www.teadrop.co.uk/products/malabar-chai
It's our default 'winter tea', especially near Christmas, as it has that 'Christmas cake' flavour appeal. Very warming and comforting, rich and aromatic!
I'd also recommend anything else from that company, Grant. It's all top-notch:)
Marco.
Trust me, it's tremendous!:)
Marco.

Nothing quite like afternoon tea and cake!
Marco.
Yeah lol, now and again we enjoy a nice cup of tea and cake, usually around 3.30/4pm in the afternoon, and preferably during the winter months. Just hits the spot!:)
And that one was produced by an artisan bakery in Wales. We get them delivered to us by the dairy, where we get our milk... Which one do you think we should try next (scroll down for the cakes):

:)
Marco.
Like bakewell and lemon slices. The farmhouse looks good too
Yeah it's a quality company, mate. We get great service from them, which was very handy during the first national lockdown when all the idiots were clearing the shelves of essentials in supermarkets with panic buying!
So we were getting all our bread, fruit and veg, milk, butter, yogurt, eggs, cream and all sorts from them, delivered to our door.
Bur yes, I think we'll try the lemon iced cake next:)
Marco.
Lemon goes well with tea
Imperial Pu erh. A bit of lemon and honey.
This is a fermented tea.

Not the nicest colour that, dude, is it?
Looks like what I emptied out last night from the washing up bowl:D;)
Love the mug, though!
Marco.
