Ads have always been there but I agree they have suddenly become very intrusive and now take up much of the screen. Very irritating!Quote:

As mentioned in the link, it is expected the software will 'learn' where it places the new adverts, and not have them appear within posts (which I agree is extremely annoying). If you really can't wait for the system to settle, then the only solution will be to install an ad-blocker, which will remove all advertising from the site. The downside is that if you click on some links that will take you off-site, you will be asked for permission (for a one-off allowance), the webpage will refresh and you will need to re-click on the link. This obviously takes up your time and the presence of ad-blocking software will affect the speed of your computer.
again, an ad block will get rid of on pc. if on a mobile then the tapatalk app is ad free and much easier to use than a browser, plus you get free image hosting...its a win win.
Ad block plus works really well in firefox on my laptop, I get NO adverts, but plagued by the bloody things on my iPad.
Ironically there is just such an embedded advert, for bras of all things, within the first post of this thread.
Thanks for the explanation and link. I should have had a search on the site before posting. I’ve been away and noticed it when I returned. I use an ad blocker on the PC but noticed them being intrusive on the iPad. No massive concern and happy with the explanation.

i dont get any, unless i want them. never had them inside posts. currently ublock has filtered out 100% of them, but i will switch it off sometimes and check out ads in right place, and click on a few as it helps the software know wheres right..
Furthermore, and as an aside, it's pretty much de rigueur running some form of ad-blocking software on any computer, as most sites these days are littered with ads and pop-ups (the owners of such have to fund the running costs somehow), so the use of such software will improve your overall browsing experience throughout the Internet, not just when you're posting here!:)
Indeed, when we introduced the new system, we presumed that members would have already installed such on their devices, but forgot the kind of daftees we've got!:lol::D;)

P.S Running ad-blocking software on any decent/up-to-date computer, with adequate resources/memory, shouldn't affect its speed. It certainly doesn't with mine.
doesnt slow down even my old one; on contrary it speeds it up as its not having to image the ads

The well-known 'tried and tested' ad-blockers are absolutely fine [if they weren't, you'd know all about it], and if you use Google Chrome as a browser (as I do) Ad-Block+ simply comes with it:)
I find Chrome a great browser to use in general, as it's also the only one I know that offers to instantly translate websites in foreign languages.

It was a message that now pops up when I switch the computer on. Words to the effect that you can speed things up by removing unnecessary add-ons, by which I assume means ad-blockers. Have to confess I haven't noticed much difference in general - I'm just delighted the ads have vanished.Quote:

Bear in mind though, that you'll be competing not just with other members here, some of whom may be interested in the ad content (especially the lingerie fetishists among us:eyebrows:), but also hundreds, possibly thousands, of 'Guests', some of whom also may have clicked to view the ad content... And if they outnumber the 'x' clickers, closing the ads, then the ads will stay put...
On average, AoS gets 9000 page views per day, so the ad software will be influenced by the *collective* behaviour of the total number of visitors. Plus, in terms of the site being able to support itself, we WANT as many folks as possible to click on the ads, and view the content!

Also if you get a goole ad you dont like, then click the X to get rid. you should then get a couple of boxes. one is to ask not to get tht ad again. the other box should tell you why you got the ad and also how to change the behaviour of the ads for you.
