Typical audio designer/audio enthusiast but at the end of the day what does it matter what any of us look like?
I tell you what if that's a hotel venue, say a busy show then that looks like a cooler way to do it than a suit or smart casual. I used to pass Alan Sircom in the early days of me doing shows, him in a shirt/tie/jacket, photograph studio hanging round his neck, sweat lashing off him, shorts and Hawaiian shirt would have been much cooler but less professional looking attire.
Shame folks are commenting on how he looks.

Agreed, Mike, but the content of that presentation is full of interesting nuggets even if the delivery is a little 'American'. If Paul's new DirectStream box delivers those thoughts put into practice, it's got to be worth a listen.
It's the 'American' bit that gets me. That's why I don't like reading Stereophile ;)

I agree on both counts.
However, it's the trite message they portray (much like all high-end hi-fi mags do) that the newest and latest is automatically best and/or that price automatically equates to performance, coupled with the inherent 'American-ness' of their overall focus, that turns me off.
That's why we do what we do so well on AoS - and that's champion the benefits of SPPV! ;)

There's a great editorial piece by Art Dudley this month, I'm going to see if I can link to it or reproduce it.
I sort of know what you mean - but I've had some great bits of American kit - Perpetual Technologies, Audio Research, DK Design, Faroudja, Zu Audio, MG-1 Airbearing tonearm. I think some of their stuff is made with a care and attention which demands respect. Much isn't, of course.Quote:

Yup, but before anyone accuses me of being anti-American, especially our hundreds of American friends registered here, who are a big part of our community, it's only the 'American' style of delivery sometimes, by salesmen or magazine hacks selling things, that 'grates' somewhat on me.
Otherwise, there are many things I love (and envy) about America and American people - and not just some of the superb hi-fi equipment they produce! :)
