This film was shot in Death Valley, and was dedicated to John Ford's friend and early star, Harry Carey, who died in 1947. At the beginning, stuntman Cliff Lyons is shown silhouetted against a sunset, riding Carey's favorite horse, Sonny, over the words: "To the Memory of Harry Carey, bright star of the Western sky..."
Film made a profit and is well regarded.
'Picnic At Hanging Rock' (1975)
Third time I've seen this, still don't know what to make of it. Gives the impression that it is based on a true story, but it isn't. The authoress of the book wrote it after being inspired by a vivid dream. Could have been rubbish but Peter Weir directs and he is always good and adds an extra dimension to it.
You might like it or you might think you've wasted 2 hours of your life. Hard to say. 'Mrs Mangle' off of 'Neighbours' is in it.
I seem to remember that I'd not want to watch it again, it didn't leave a memorable impression.Quote:

'Midnight Run' (1987)
Not seen this before, don't know why. Bob De Niro is a bounty hunter who has to take a prisoner (Charles Grodin) from New York to LA with the feds, the mafia and another bounty hunter all chasing after him.
Entertaining but one of those films where you wish it had been done a bit better. The tone is uneven, at times it is like something Tarentino would do, with good characters and snappy dialogue, but occasionally the humour gets broad which waters it all down too much.
Also the directing lacks any style, it's strictly 'by the numbers' although the photography and choice of locations is occasionally excellent.
Joe Pantoliani (later to be Ralph Sipheretto in the 'Sopranos') is good as the bail bondsman, which helps a little. Worth a watch but it's not the sum of its parts.
