When shooting the early scene when the tanker burns and they abandon ship, Humphrey Bogart and Raymond Massey got into a friendly argument over who had the better stunt double. In the end, the two stars decided to do the stunt themselves. Massey elaborates on this anecdote in detail in his autobiography, "A Hundred Different Lives".
I think I saw that at our local film club. From what I remember it was typically wierd Lynch. I couldn't follow what was going on, didn't understand it - and might have even walked out!Quote:

IMO the surest way to ruin a David Lynch film is to try to understand it. I always just enjoyed the "moments", without worrying too much what it all meant. I did try with "Twin Peaks" and that got me nowhere. Always liked the music too :)

Last night I watched Kevin Costner's 'Open Range', hadn't seen it before. He directed and starred with (the always excellent) Robert Duvall and Anette Bening. Not a bad movie, a little let down by the rather corny romantic ending. Great gunfight though!
