I think Mike has a new vinyl spinner that IMHO will trounce an LP12 when fully fettled.:)

After hearing Martin and Marco's Technics and the affect the Greek cable had I want to hear some more comparisons for sure
I also really want to hear either or both their decks driving my system and compare to my LP12 - as well as picking up any tips to make any of it sound better !
Looking under my LP12 I don't think I have the flexibility the Technics have
Almost forgot
I'd love to hear the Nottingham deck at the same time
I am so impressed with my modified Tellurium Q Black Phono cable from SUT to phono preamp (now with WBT plugs) that I spent all last night going through some of my favourite albums. It has made a big difference and bodes well for the Yannis tonearm cable and SR7 PSU still to arrive.

It is bonkers, and yet I'm really looking forward to getting home and playing more vinyl. Speaks volumes.
Well, if I can tear you away, just up the road to Chobham one evening or weekend I really want to hear as much of your kit driving mine. Say Technics, SUT and Phono amp ?
Plenty of food and spare bedrooms
Nice and close to Ascot !
:)
Done! We'll co-ordinate by e-mail.
Let me know when the proposed date is too, and I'll see if I can make it!
Marco.
Yannis has finished my cable and it's on its way! Photo of it below. The interconnect will follow soon.

Looking good, Martin. Bet you can't wait to get it now! :)
Marco.
I'm sticking with WBTs, especially since I've heard what they did for my Tellurium Qs.
It'll be interesting comparing our tonearm cables next time I'm down - not! :D
Marco.
Mine has got a thicker 'bulb' on the end for extra girth! It's the chunkier housing of the Eichmanns, ya knows... :bum:
Marco.
You get the feeling that much of Yannis' output is custom and therefore slightly different. He's certainly open to whatever you want design-wise.
Indeed. I love dealing with small manufacturers like that, where you can tailor the design of products to your own requirements. My system is full of that kind of stuff. I really don't think I could ever go back to using mainstream manufacturers.
I think that Yannis has also learned quite a lot himself about connectors (their sonic influence on cables), and some other things, which he hadn't considered before! ;)
Marco.
i'm so impressed with Yannis that i've just comissioned him to produce me some balanced interconnects for my speakers. I have given him the mission goal that this new cable must piss over everything else he's ever designed. How's the poor bugger gonna top that
Got it! I'll be playing LPs tonight. Do NOT disturb me :)
Hehehehe... Can't wait to know what you think. Mine will be arriving soon, too. Enjoy, and spill the beans later! :eyebrows:
Marco.
Quick impressions: my 423.5 is doing that height thing again, first noticed by Marco and myself with the Joan Armatrading s/t album when we tried his 423.5 on my system. Bigger soundstage, more focus, extreme fine detail in the mix bringing forward light cymbal work and other tiny cues. I get the feeling the Yannis cable and re-plugged TQ Phono are working in good harmony, especially as they use WBTs all round.
The top end is a little excitable but I recognise that as 'new cable sound' and will start putting some serious hours on it where I know it will just improve.
Right, back to the music (a stiff test: can it make ELP's Welcome Back my Friends... sound good? It sure does!) "Clear the battlefield and let me see,
all the profit from our victory"...
You mean 223.5? ;)Quote:

223.5 are his stereo interconnects; the 423.5 is his tonearm cable.
Glad that the 223.5 seems to be hitting the spot! :)
Marco.
No, I mean the 423.5 tonearm cable. I haven't received the 223.5s yet.
Good news for prospective buyers then, the cable appears to be consistent from what has been reported :)
Enjoy Martin, as I'm sure you will get to know your record collection once again :D
I'm considering a pair of these with the usual furutech bling as my new pair of balanced interconnects :D
LOL - see post #413. I just received it today - the tonearm cable was always coming first.
I've just been playing Common One by Van Morrison, my favourite recording of him. Several things are emerging: the cable has already lost some of its sheen which is improving insight. His voice is even more real than I've ever heard it before. The brass section has a dirty rasp which makes me think of horn speakers with their amazing midrange speed. Filigree detail is everywhere. Bass is tremendously powerful and tight. This record just keeps responding to system improvements and has told me a great deal about the cable already.
Still playing vinyl like mad and I appreciated a slightly earlier arrival time home today than usual. Next attempt to explain what this cable does: playing Santana's seminal Abraxas.
As the wind chimes enter on 'Singing Winds, Crying Beasts' there is an additional shimmer and harmonic complexity to their sound. Nothing as crude as brighter treble, just more insight into multiple metal chimes with complex harmonics. Then comes Carlos' electric guitar, way louder and really pushing the dynamic envelope. There is more distortion than before and it takes me a moment to realise that the cable brings out more of the overload effects from his guitar amp. It's reproducing the distortion better! Now in comes a keyboard (Vibraphone?) which occupies its own space, lovely early use of synth. Over everything are clash cymbals being panned left and right. Low level bongos come in with the leading edge slap sound clearly audible. Each instrument is in focus, the overall volume level is low except for guitar which is piercingly loud. No wonder this has always been a bugger to reproduce well.
I compared it with the SACD of the same album: this is one of the best SACDs I have but it's a hopeless comparison once I realise that it simply cannot emulate that incredible dynamic range of a good LP, nor can it reach quite the nth degree of realism.
Burn-in continues. Hunky Dory is sounding rather good now.
Lol - I'm lovin' almost feeling your excitement!! :D
A cable upgrade that's almost as significant as a box one, eh? ;)
Marco.
I've known box upgrades give less and still been pleased with them.
Bring that on Tuesday if its a super quality version
I also have it and around 8 other Santana LPs.
"Welcome" has some beautiful work in it
I remember buying the first LP, never heard of him before.
21 shillings I think .......
Can't wait to hear this detail
Currently listening to The crazy world of Arthur Brown - and rediscovering it, great album
Bit of advice please having changed tonearms I need a separate phono cable and decided on a giant killer. Having emailed Yannis (who has been incredibly helpful informative and accommodating btw ) I have chosen a 423.5 over the SPD 4 with Eichmann silver bullets but cannot decide on a din connector. The choice is between his 1877phono standard issue or the much more expensive Furutech. My hunch is the latter but ................
Thanks
Mervyn
Hi Mervyn,
Having compared both at length, I can confirm that the Furutech CF-DIN(R) raises the performance notably of the 423.5 Phono Litz tonearm cable, so if you can afford it, my advice is to treat yourself!
Marco.
Nice one. You've made the right choice, particularly as it removes the 'what if?' factor ;)
Please report your impressions when you get the cable :)
Marco.
I had mine made with the Furutech, Mervyn, and the cable sounds very good indeed.
My 223.5 Phono Litz interconnect has arrived from Yannis. It's being connected up now, to compare with my Tellurium Q Black Phono cable in the SUT to phono preamp position.
Let battle commence!
Nice one, Martin. I look forward to reading your findings :)
I'm still waiting on my 223.5s to arrive. Incidentally, have you had any recent contact with Yannis, say within the last few days? I've emailed him on two occasions during that time, and have recieved no reply.
Perhaps he's on holiday?
Marco.
Mentioned earlier in this thread. 90 degree RCA/phono plugs. On eBay, seller bsulshop has some pretty decent looking ones listed at the moment, if anybody is still interested.
