most folk who apply themselves can pass exams, especially where reading and memorising are the main constituents... being intelligent is a different ball game
It's the difference between having knowledge and knowing how to use it.
Being academic isn't the same as having common sense, and most of these chinless wonders are devoid of having any, almost as much as they are divorced from reality... I detest such creatures like you couldn't imagine... Plus he's on record as being anti-Scottish, and anyone who's so blatantly anti-Scottish as him is my enemy!
Marco.
Some well considered responses there, thanks lads.

Well, don't pollute this thread with politics, or indeed any other thread on the forum. If you want to talk about that pish, start a separate (and dedicated) discussion, so all that cack can be kept in the one place.
Muchos Grassyarse:D
Marco.
I'd rather we kept off it altogether as no-one seems to have anything informed or intelligent to say and PFM already has the juvenile angle well covered.
Well it doesnt follow that read people are not intelligent but neither does it the other way. Its a form of ability, much like ability to pick up mechanical stuff easily. My Brother was university educated and a teacher, and was fairly good at lots of things, but he was far from the norm of his collegues
I spent years having multi-qualified engineers asking me how to do their job. Many hadn't the fogiest and I'm not just talking about newly qualified youngsters, lucky for them I was an amenable bloke.
Perhaps we can raise the tone of this thread with a science question:
I took a bag of crisps onto the plane (flavour probably irrelevant, but FYI smoky bacon), and when during the flight I got them out, I found that the bag had inflated like a balloon. My guess is that the crisps were packed under normal atmospheric conditions, and then in spite of the plane's cabin being pressurised, the ambient air pressure was less than normal, causing the bag to act like a pumped up tyre.
My question is this:
Could this explain why whenever I fly anywhere I have an uncomfortable and urgent need to fart? Perhaps my guts are behaving like the crisps packet.
On the return trip I did take some precautions - no baked beans in the hours prior to flying, and a good dump that morning. Still had a lot of wind to let go of, which I meted out in tiny pips, which thanks to the pre-flight poo were not smelly. At least the old lady sat next to me seemed able to continue her word search and showed no obvious signs of distress.
Does my theory have any scientific basis, or is it just a load of hot air?
You are correct. Cabin pressure is generally below ground level atmospheric pressure.
So how was Bulgaria, farty pants?:)
Marco.
You know when there's turbulence and you have to fasten seatbelts but there are always a couple of cocks who carry on walking about? The type who've been up and down out of their seats the whole flight, can't stop still for a minute?
Well, do you ever hope there'll be a bit of extreme turbulence that slams them up against the roof? Got to say I do. Maybe a bit of claret, broken nose or something. Never seen it happen but I know people who have so I live in hope. Although I don't fly much anymore so probably missed my chance.
Perfect for us - a lot of walking, a lot of eating/drinking, a lot of reading, and a fair bit of sleeping :)
Made my annual visit to Nessebar old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site with a lot of history, if that's your thing. Mostly for me it's visiting their little record shop, where I always pick up one or two souvenirs. The guy actually remembers me now, so either I'm really memorable or business is really shit. After buying "Rattle That Lock" by David Gilmour last year, which ended up a bit misshapen by the time I got it home, I vowed to get no more vinyl.
But this time I ended up getting mint-looking copies of "Siren" by Roxy Music (I know, but I'm trying to complete their album discography and only a couple to go), and "Welcome to my Nightmare" by Alice Cooper. Cost me a total of £22, so not mega bargains, unless they play mint.
I've flown many times, but the only aircraft I've been on have been military. That was a long, long, time ago!
I was out in the garden about 7.15 this morning and all I could hear was the squawking of Parakeets flying about, they're getting very common here.
Good stuff, daftee. Sounds like you guys had some quality time and recharged your batteries, which is what a holiday's all about!:)
Nice one on picking up some vinyl. too. Always good to add to one's collection of choons... Did you try some of the local red wine, as I mentioned before you went away? The stuff that they don't export abroad is supposed to be rather good, and cheap as chips. Also, how was the grub?
Marco.
Marco, always thinking about yer belly!
Didn't get to "eat out" this year (we were all-inclusive and watching the pennies a bit), but the hotel food was actually really good, though not traditional Bulgarian. I think they were just catering for several nationalities. I seemed to get through a lot of veal steaks served in a variety of sauces (which I liked).
But the culinary highlight came on Wednesday evening, in the form of a Cockney-sounding gob-on-legs, and his equally vocal wife. The bloke had been a bit of a knob all week, swearing loudly about anything and everything within earshot of all the small kiddies. I could have happily knocked the little fat fuck's pint onto the floor and mop it up with his head, but we were trying to have a chilled holiday so we gave him a wide berth (as did everyone else).
Anyway, as I was browsing the a la carte offerings my attention was drawn by him and his equally mouthy bint giving the holiday rep some grief about the temperature of the Chilli. Mrs. Gobshite had a food thermometer stuck in it with a reading of 56C, which apparently isn't good enough. She declared (loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear that "I do this for a living, and this should read 75C!" I'm guessing her "profession" is school dinner lady. I just pushed past her and got some of the condemned Chilli and very nice it was too :)
Begs the question though: Who the f__k takes a food thermometer on holiday?
Next day they were gone - I suspect they were after some kind of discount off their holiday. I might have a look on Trip Advisor if I get a bored minute, they will definitely have posted something.
We did do a tour round a wine place in Pomorie last year, where we got to try out various plonks. The reds were largely quite a fruity bouquet with earthy undertones, and an amount of woodiness...sorry I can't keep that up - they were nice, but we're not big wine drinkers. I think the cheeses that came with it helped.
Post of the year (so far - no pressure!) right there Steve. Loved it!
Haha - well for most Europeans, not just me, the food is the highlight of the holiday! Remember that we live to eat, not eat to live, like most Brits [although clearly not those on AoS]!;)
Fair enough.Quote:

Lol - and the English wonder why they're often hated abroad?Quote:

Plus it's usually the arrogant southerners in tourist resorts who are most guilty of ruining the reputation of decent English people.... Sorry, that's just been my experience, although I know plenty of English people from the south, in real life, particularly proper cockneys, who are the complete opposite, but some of the tourists abroad are a different breed.
Chilled out holiday or not though mate, I'd have slapped the c*nt. Done it before in similar situations!
Priceless - that's just too funny for words!!:lol:Quote:

The answer to your question though, is a sad cow with nothing better to do. I'd have shoved it up her arse, and told her it was a damn sight tighter in that hole than her 'front one' has likely ever been!:eyebrows: And yes, they were almost certainly trying to get a discount, through fraudulent pretences. Can't stand folk like that. They really make my blood boil!:steam:
Ha - no worries. Glad you enjoyed it. It's just that Bulgarian (and Romanian) wine gets a bad rep here, simply because we get all their plonk, which over there is a different ballgame. I've not been to Bulgaria, but it's a country I'd certainly like to visit.Quote:

Lol - changed it to slapped, as that's what I meant!
Marco.
Yesh, but you're an example of a nice cockhead, oops I mean Cockney!:eyebrows::D
Marco.
Lol - you enjoy yourself mate, and stay well away from any hurricanes!;)
