The film was ahead of its time and is worthy of being regarded as a 'classic', but comes across today as being dated and very naive.

Yes it is, although maybe part of its charm.

The Railway Children, 1970. from the novel by E Nesbit. Directed by Lionel Jeffries and stars Dinah Sheridan, Jenny Agutter, Sally Thomsett and Bernard Cribbins.
Sally Thomsett was cast as the 11-year-old Phyllis, despite being 20 years old at the time. Her contract forbade her to reveal her true age during the making of the film and she was also not allowed to be seen smoking or drinking during the shoot. Interestingly 17-year-old Jenny Agutter played her older sister, Roberta :lol:

A fabulous film this; there was a remake in which Jenny Agutter played the mother and Rab C Nisbet played the Cribbens role which is also good.

This is the new bluray restoration, and it sits with pride in my collection. Superb film....

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, 1947. Starring Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison. It was directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz.

Still well regarded, and Harrison is very good as the rough sea captain. A very young Natalie Wood as a child, plays Tierney's daughter..
