Film did very well in Britain, and was a major money spinner making over £1m... Interestingly Pressburger, who had fled Germany in the 20's for France and the Britain from about mid 30's, was arrested and was going to be deported when he returned from Canada from making the film.. He was eventually released.. Typical bureaucracy eh.

Imo one of Peckinpah's best .Although not his usual violence here, a spot of humour is evident, especially from Robards. It went over budget but still made a small profit.
