Most SSDs have excellent performance. The telling feature will be reliability over the long term, which is impossible to tell. I noticed that eBuyer were selling those OCZ SSDs as well as a couple of cheap Sandisk models.
I am all SSD at work (desktop & lappy) and I may pick one up for home use.
George: if you run Windows 7, it's a piece of cake to create an image backup to a USB drive and then boot the DVD and restore the data to the new SSD.
Can you run through how that is achieved please Martin and what software is needed?
There is a good guide HERE on how to do a back up and restore in Windows 7.
I use Acronis myself but that's through habit more than anything else.
The SSD in this laptop is 120 Gb and cost me £380 the original 30Gb SSD as supplied by Dell on this laptop was a £900 option. £50 is nothing for 120Gb
SSD is the way forward and soon the next generation will be with us.
Which is why I posted the link ;). I paid £280 for the 250GB that I am using in my main laptop. It transformed the machine in terms of speed increase. Has me dreaming about an i7 processor PC with 8GB memory and 512GB SSD:drool:.Quote:

Cool, thanks Martin. I have been thinking about acquiring an SSD for a while now, however now that prices are so low it would be silly to prevaricate over it any longer ;)
