Just watched 'An Inspector Calls' by J. B. Priestly on the Drama channel. Starring David Thewlis as the "Inspector", with Ken Stott and Miranda Richardson as members of the Birling family.
A superb piece of writing. I've seen the play several times, and on each occasion it has given me food for thought as to the play's 'message' and who exactly is the "inspector" is.
Great play, which has gained more interest of late. One of my fav films, where Sim is fab as the inspector

A friend has been bugging me to watch this so I taped it when it came around again. Not a war film as such as there are no scenes of battle but some very powerful moments. Not a fun film to watch but it is engaging despite, or maybe because of its bleakness.
George Peppard has a great role and plays it very well, probably his best film of the ones I have seen, he made some right rubbish in his time.
Karl Foremans only chance to Direct i think and it wasnt a success alas. Yes its a good film, although too dark for its time i think and why it was a failure... mid 70's early 80, it would have done well. Foreman was witchunted by McCarthyism which didnt do his career any good either... he wrote the script for river kwai and eventually got his oscar.
Dark even for these times! In some ways it reminds me of a Tarantino film, lots of emphasis on the characters and lots of set-up situations that serve to develop the characters rather than the plot. I wonder if he is a fan of it?Quote:
