Hi Ali,Quote:
Well gee, fucking excuse me!!!! I dunno, maybe it's the fact that at the time,I'd just found out that the woman I love has terminal cancer...
I have no comment to make regarding tuners (goodness, that is less than an insignificant triviality in the circumstances), but as I consider you a friend, I am most saddened to hear of your terrible news :( :(
My thoughts go to everyone concerned, not least of which your good lady and her family - and I will pray for the best possible outcome.
Take care, mate.
Best,
Marco.
Thanks Marco. My other half is Catholic too,so she will appreciate the gesture.
No problem, Ali. She can count on my prayers.
Stay positive if you can. Where there's life, mate, there's hope.
Marco.
Another machine arrived today Sony 'TC-377'. it's mint but needs a good clean & service, wants a new set of belts etc..I always fit new belts regardless of if they need em or not. The great thing about the 'TC-366', 'TC-377' & 'TC-378' Sony machines is they had a wedged shape cabinet where you could either have the machine laid down flat or sat up like the 'TC-366' pictured at the back, a clever idea, you just unscrew the side screws & turn the machine around, screw it back up..
Anyway got it for a song £51.00

Nice Machine Andr'e, you do seem to have a knack of buying good stuff in very nice condition
Bloody bargain Andre! Looks great. How does it sound?
I could be tempted..
I left mine with a staff member in Northampton. Dunno what he did with it as the master idler was slipping on the motor/flywheel and the main control wouldn't stay engaged (a common problem I've seen a few times).
Nah, I want a Ferrograph logic 7, although apparently the heads wear out quickly because fast winding apparently doesn't lift the tape clear of them......
That Sony will just want a service.. There not far off 40 years old now..
I have no use for a 10.5'' machine dave you'll never see one in my collection..I think youll find you may get more trouble with a 'Logic 7' than an old Sony tbh, i've seen many of those logic controls fail. 'Logic 7' need a lot of money spending on them.. My 'Super Seven' cost me a lot of money, i was actually glad to see the back of it.
Aye non disengaging heads on FFw/Rew, that was one of the primary reasons that Betamax video machines were a flop putting aside the extra pitfall of short recording time available on high quality record..But like anything in the consumer electronics world if something is easier to use fuck sound/vision quality
Dave theres one thing theres no pressure pads on a 'Logic 7' like the older machines..Nice looking machines all the same..
There's always hope. She is fine at the moment, the cancer she had metastasized, and she has cysts all over her body, but they are all tiny at the moment. It's just a case of which grows first.
Indeed, and it punches way above it's weight. Nice example you've got there Andr'e, though I know it's guts need a good workout :eyebrows:
Much like the Akai CR-81D you turned me onto; thanks for the Manual. Lid off tonight to try and get the azimuth sorted. Here goes nothing!
I feel like just won the lotto and got this!!!
This album is from 1968,His first album!
Good Luck. I've had that Sony in bits since this morning, worked on it constantly. It didnt work, the belts were knackered, the record wouldnt latch, brakes were catching etc etc you name it...All sorted 12 hours later, new belts, everything clean, oiled & greased looks like a new one..perfect, the flywheel motor is slightly noisy tho, i'm gonna strip & rebuild it, might aswell now.
I just went up the thread and saw this and the rest above it.
My wife and I will also pray for her it helps to know her name and say it in the prayer each time.
I have seen alot of people beat cancer, one thing they all had incommen was a positive aditude and dark green veggies like brocclii and asperagus are suposed to be very helpful, cancer loves sugar so she should watch her food choices very closely.
Thanks Jeff, that's very kind. Her name is Michelle. She's trying a special diet, following the book by David Servan-Schreiber called "Anti Cancer-A New Way of Life"
As Jeff says, we're all with both of you, Ali.
Thanks Dimitri.
Damn, this world is sh!t sometimes. The advances in cancer treatment the last 25 years or so have been truly remarkable, so here's hoping for you Ali. I'm not a desperately religious person, so my thoughts if not my prayers are with you.
Thanks Alex, and to all who have sent messages of support,it means a lot.
Hi Ali,
Del and I are off to mass in an hour, so we'll light a candle for Michelle and include her in our prayers.
Marco.
Thanks again Marco.
You're very welcome, mate; it's been done. We'll light a candle for Michelle at mass and include her in our prayers every week. Please give her our best.
Marco.
I will.
Faith is a good thing. My faith is in the self, I'd suggest that she has faith in her self, and you have faith in her! People find cures in everything from going to america to have stuff poked in thier eyes to reiki to faith healers to chinese medicine to books about special diets.. it's all about triggering the faith in the self. Meditation is good for that and it's free (unlike going to America to have stuff poked in ya eye). People praying to thier gods for her is a wonderful thing, bit I say cut out the middleman and pray to her, you don't even need to belive in god to do that! People say where there's life there's hope, I say where there's life there's faith! it comes in many forms, but it's the most powerful thing there is, and the best thing about it is it's in all of us... Belive in it, harness it... And anything can happen!
Just my thoughts on it.. hippy mode off :)
edit: I was pretty pissed when I woke up this morning and wrote this... It's been here to long just to delete it by sorry if it offends any ones sensibilitys
Ali...? Just heard. :(
I'm not a religious man, but my thoughts go to you an Michelle.
It CAN be beat, and is.
Keep on truckin' Chief.
Yes,she's already beat it three times, but now it's spread everywhere. We need a miracle.
Off to pick up a pair Mission 770 Mkiis that I got for £31. Always regretted selling my old ones.
May just leave it. Won't have much effect at LF unit frequencies.
Otherwise, hoover or a pin.
I put my original pair in the attic when I moved to ProAc Tablettes under domestic pressure. By the time I sold them, I'd upgraded my TT, arm, cartridge and amps. Plugged them in to demonstrate to the buyer that they worked and was horrified to hear how good they were. Buyer had travelled to collect so had no choice but to let them go.
Sticky tape worked for me a few years ago... bloody kids.....
Makes me laugh how over the years people have so called seemingly upgraded & upgraded spending many thousands thinking they are reaching audio nirvana, in reality they are deluding themselves.. when at somepoint they hear something like speakers they used many moons ago & realise they been such plonkers over the years, also realising they have effectivly degraded & Degraded
Re: pork pie show, i was horrified to hear so much shit sounding stereos on the day that people actually though sounded good :mental:
I would never ever entertain another pair of modern speakers. These are the ones i use now Original 737 which replaced the white faced 727
I have some of the very old original Mission 77's here. Tehy sound OK, I was considering giving them to a freind for his system.
Heres an original handbook i got with my 770's donkies years ago. I wasnt bothered about Mission after the silver hammerite paint finishes in the early '80's

20 used once TDK AD60/90 cassettes Circa 1982/84 for a tenner free post

Holy Shit

:stalks:
If money wernt an issue i'd have bought em :(
These are rare, one of the last Quantums...'ST-100'..The 'IA100' amplifier was a prietty good little unit aswell!
The earlier '102'/'402' 2x'205' combo was one of my favs..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Quantum-Electr...item53e11ce314
Back in the day we had a waiting list of one year for Quantum amps. They were good and great value.
Back then the fave system with the mags was a heap of Meridian and Mission 770 speakers. We used to dem this against the Quantum and Celef or SD2 speakers at a fraction of the cost and generated a waiting list because it sounded so much better.
Those were the days...:eyebrows:
Another Sony 'TC-377' landed, job for the weekend but apart from a bit of dirt on the facia it's another minter..£45.00..
Bagged myself an armless Logic 'Tempo' turntable last night for a cool £42.00, Linn fitting, i'll probably fit an Alphason 'Xenon' arm or something on it..Pictuoor when it arrives.

Yep, I agree - great little tuner. In fact, guess who its new owner is..........;)
I've owned most of Quantum Electronics output but never seen any 205 monoblocks. Also, does anyone know if the ST100's mooted bigger brother, the ST-150, ever made it into production?
Finally, I'm not sure if it's OK for this thread, as I didn't buy them on eBay, but these mysteriously removed a tenner from my wallet and deposited themselves in the car when I was at the dump last week - Goodmans Magisters, with proper 15" bass drivers! :eyebrows:
