Love those switches !
They look like you raided Action Man's kitchen and nicked his cooking pots and turned 'em upside down :D

There's a tidy BD1 just listed on ebay if anybody is interested. These little decks punch way above their weight.

Found this Little Bear MC2 passive pre-amp waiting for me on my return from hols.

I figured it was worth a go at a mere £26.95 from ebay, free post too from China: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MC2-Fully-.../292091442510?
I thought it might be suitable for use with the Quad 306 power amp. It is. I have it wired up and it sounds very good. Bargain!
It comes with RCA and balanced inputs and outputs.
Does it support fully balanced connections? I would have thought to do that it needs to have four potentiometers - I can only see two, but since the PCB is double sided, I could be mistaken.
Got four pre-amps now. A VTL Deluxe I've had for many years, a very sumptuous sounding valve job, with an amazingly good MM phono stage (not tried it with the Quad 306 yet). Then there's the Moth Series 30 mentioned in the last post. Next, the recently purchased and dirt cheap Little Bear MC2 passive, which works just fine with the Quad. Lastly and by far the best sounding, the MingDa MC-9 TVC unit, which has amazing sound quality.
The big number of times I've met that MingDa :D

Well, I've just put this Moth Series 30 pre-amp back together.

The case and front panel have been resprayed black and I've changed the volume pot from 10k to 100k in the hope of making it slightly more progressive. It looks a sight better with the black front, as opposed to the light wood colour it had before.
This is a really nice sounding little unit, very clear and detailed. Funny thing is it sounded a bit coarse on switch on, but smoothed out over the first quarter of an hour.
One annoying thing is the replacement pot having an imbalance. Left is quieter than right. Can't have that. It'll have to be changed (again ).
.
Might not be the pot but just being shown up with the. 100k
I have other pots to try. We'll see. :)
KEF Corellis.

Why do I keep using them when I've got a beautiful pair of big Tannoys stood right behind them? Not sure really. The Tannoys sound bloody marvellous, but there's something about the Corellis. They're very musical, detailed and transparent. No lack of body either. It's just a nice listen. :)
Looking good, Geoff!

A different sort of goodness. A change is as good as a bit of sex:lol:
Power amps everywhere.

Top right in the rack, Modern Classic Tubes CT15 Class A EL34 monoblocks. Below, Quad 306, sitting on Monarchy Audio SM-70 on right and on left, Monarchy Audio SM-70 Pro.
Not a bad one there. Just listening to the creamy smooth SM-70 Pro at the moment. Boy does this thing let the speakers image, almost holographic!
It's just had a new power transformer, courtesy of Alan (Firebottle) who's done a great job. Cheers mate!! So glad to get it back.
so it was the TX that went on it..... good news its fixed, as I know you like them
got a sub coming for the speakers... will also be able to be used with the full range too if I wish.. has both high and low level plus adjustable slope etc. looks in decent nick. Take it if used on high level you just put it in parallel. it has land r speaker terminals.. plus a low level coax
Sounds interesting. Any particular model?
its a Canton. Ive had their stuff before and its pretty good(German)
Yes. I know Canton. Should be decent.
Bought this last night. Not entirely sure why, but I've alway liked them.

PL-12D! It was cheap and it's not had much use, the silver lettering around the arm lift lever wears away if they've had regular use. There's no lid and the belt, lateral balance weight and headshell are missing. Not a problem. A regular tweak was to remove the weight anyway and replace the standard headshell with something beefier. I have spare belts.
Who knows? After a few mods, it could become my main TT, seeing as I hardly play records these days.
looks a tidy example. you do know your supposed to be reducing not increasing? ;)
My cheapo PL-12D arrived safely. As I suspected, it is definitely a low usage example. A little heftier than I recall too. Everything works like new and it is very quiet.
Looking forward to playing with this, after I've given it a fettle.

Another crap photo from a 12.1mp Lumix.
My ten year old Fujifilm E900 takes way better pictures. Better exposed and sharper!
Was it cheap
Pretty good
It will be receiving a few subtle tweaks. I'll show what's done here.
That looks like a bit of a bargain Geoff . I sold my GL75 and I've been looking for something to play my albums on ever since . Something like this would have fitted the bill . Nice find :)
I've always liked these Brian. They're a long way from being the ultimate turntable, but they are an honest little deck that plays music and lasts forever.
Yup agreed Geoff . I'm not looking for the '' ultimate '' in resolution , just something that works and plays music :)
Alan , you have PM . Can you clear your inbox please .
I've made space, first time I've overdosed
Cor. I'd forgotten how much heat my Monarchy Audio power amp chucks out. I had the windows shut as usual for listening and the amp was on about five hours. The room ended up baking! You could have fried an egg on the amp, it was that hot.
Changed over to the Quad 306 an hour ago. That's barely warm.
Borrowed a Promitheus TVC pre-amp to try in my system.

It sounds bloody marvellous driving the Quad 306, a really good match. Not tried it with the Class A or valve power amps yet. That should be interesting.
had one of those.. very good tvc's... build quality maybe isnt top notch but not bad for money.
I believe it is Shane.
Does it compete well against the Mingda?
S.
:spank: Get on with it!!
:D
