I seem to remember a Tandy there. Can't remember visiting it though. I used the long gone Ealing Broadway one a few times.

I remember a shop in Acton, my Dad took me there a couple of times, but I can't remember the name. They also used to advertise in magazines. It might have been RTV Acton. I might find a few old Practical Wireless magazines to check.

Just got Practical Wireless out, April 1965, page 1175, avert for Radio and TV Components (Acton) Ltd, 21 High Street Acton W3. This particular advert is for a portable radio, the Elegant Seven at £4.4.0
I had been watching these for a few days and as I went to see the mighty Wrexham play Cheltenham ( Boo) , I forgot to place a max bid of £50!!
Was it a bargain ??

Quite cheap but they are not vintage Celestions unless mid 1990s now counts as vintage. Which it doesn't. That range had mixed reviews and post-dates Celestion's move to China.
Always liked the idea of these bookshelf speakers:

I've never heard them, but seem to remember a review that quite liked them. I do have a pair of Videoton Minimax II's, not too bad, could do with a better tweeter.
Just noticed, the ones in the listing look like they need new surrounds on the bass units.
On slightly different lines was the Rogers Wafer Speaker, I had these on home trial from Rogers just before the beginning of production, quite liked them at the time.
These look quite interesting and may make a nice multiple driver full range speaker

Ive got an offer on them, but dunno if he will take it... may be 5" versions of the 8080m4
Well did you get these Grant ? :)
It was accepted brian lol.
Ut will be sn interesting project methinks
Nice one sir :D
If you build speakers with these make sure you can carry them
A wee line array OB might be interesting.
Sounds good Mr T. Probably need 2 people to carry them though :D
It's not proper hi-fi unless it takes two people to carry it.. :-)
Hah ! True True
You'll be moving into the shed soon Grant
Got 4 sets of speakers in spare room and 2 empty sets in kitchen so plenty room yet
:D
Bugger. I deleted on of your posts Grant. I was trying to reply and quote then needed to edit and messed things up, sorry about that.
Anyway. As I was going to say. I built some big folded horn cabinets for speakers this size years ago, using two driver in each. It worked a treat. Very punchy with proper bass.
IMF ALS40 in Wrexham. These are great fun. Wicked bass output. Getting rare now.

Very sad. And as for the description, words fail me...

It has seen better days aint it. terrible how folk treat nice stuff......get their money too easy.
It amazes me how people can have their equipment in this condition. It would drive me nuts! I'd have to strip ever part of that to restore it to its original beauty. Or am I a bit OCD
Such a shame though. This is such a great TT but I wouldn't pay the amount it's managed to reach on bids due to its condition.
yep,id have a bid if it was £50,its too high for the state of it.
Shame he's only got one-

Not really Jamie. The important turntable parts look OK. I'd sell the arm, bin the plinth and lid and make a new base. If the bearing was knackered I'd turn a new one up on the lathe. Any half decent machine shop could do it for a modest cost. The bearing is likely to be OK anyway. They seem to last.
Is that what you say to all the boys? :D :eyebrows:
Marco.
Anyone near West Yorkshire fancy a bit of a bargain. Just gone on Gumtree some 35 minutes ago......
