Hey, you're getting fancy now!:eyebrows:
Returning to the milk thing, I have to concede that Justers was right on the subject of whole vs. semi-skimmed. Whole milk is definitely better (creamier), and not too rich, if used in the right way:)
The problem was, as a non-milk drinker, I'd not tasted *proper* whole milk for years, such as one used to get in glass bottles, delivered straight from the dairy by the milkman. My recent experience has simply been with bog-standard supermarket milk, and the whole-milk version of that isn't very good, and rather 'plasticky' in taste.
However, the Calon Wen below is in a different league, and tastes just like proper milk used to! Consequently it makes fantastic cappuccinos (and no doubt, macchiatos):

It's now inspired me to investigate the rest of their product range, delivered direct to your door!
Marco
We have the luxury of a milkman who delivers in glass bottles. I am more than pleased to pay the bill as for 12 years they have never missed a delivery apart from in extreme weather conditions .
Their milk is excellent.
Anyway I am glad you have found something better than supermarket fat cells in water LOL!:)
Something else with generic supermarket milk is it's all homogenised, had the fats broken down and evenly distributed. " Old fashioned " milk is just pasteurised and then bottled, where the cream sits at the top. Just tastes so much better. A few years ago I rented a cottage on a dairy farm and used to get milk pretty much straight from the cow with no processing at all, of course there is the potential for health problems but if the herd is healthy and good hygiene used it is the best tasting milk ever.
I made the homogenised point above.
The thing is, why the fuck are they doing it? Anyone know why they are deliberately ruining milk with this homogenising bullshit?
I think it's to make it easier to digest and you don't get the thick creamy dod on top which many disliked
You simply shake the bottle before you open it. Granted you may get the odd lump of cream but hey, it tastes 8 times better.
Lol, indeed... I admire your discernment and desire for consuming quality milk.
I'd love to use a milkman, as you've outlined (I'm sure there'd be plenty in this area), if for no reason other than cutting down on plastic. Glass is better for the environment, as it's much easier to recycle, and doesn't adversely affect the flavour of milk, as does plastic, however with only me taking cow's milk in our house, it simply wouldn't be practical.
The Calon Wen though, plastic bottle aside, as it's produced just up the road from where we live, is likely to be pretty much as good:)
Marco.
