The Dynavector cart I have is 20X2L. Have heard that on my friends system several times and decided that it will be nice replacement for the time being. However have not yet taken that into use as have planned to use my Transfiguration until the stylus will be end of its lifecycle. So at the moment Dynavector is just waiting its turn as a backup.

Planned to install immaculate Fidelity Research FR-64FX to get a classic combination and then try few different cartridges starting from my trusty Zu DL-103 and DV-20X2L I recently bought from local retailer. Have the SME V and Tfig Phoenix at my pimped Garrard, so it's really interesting to hear the end result when the time comes.Quote:

I'm still waiting the new Sonofil stuffing and HQ connectors to arrive. After that I can finalize the new backpanel to replace the old ones with balanced XLR connectors, that I've used with small diy-adapters. Few weeks ago got new lenses from Kenrick Sound and these look sweet and have not the installation kit added.. :)

Next week also my new tonearm, legendary Fidelity Research FR-64X, should arrive for my MS turntable, so plenty of things happening here in near future. Can't really wait to get everything back together again as those small BBC LS3/5A clones really are not enough for me despite not being bad at all..
I just love quality drive units and those JBLs are gorgeous. What exactly are you having done with the cabs Mika?
I had a long dispute with myself whether to get the JBLs back to the original condition or to get them redone just to match visually better to my room. I finally chose the latter as my friend (the carpenter) said that he can get them easily back to original shape later if needed and nothing reversible will be done.
I do not actually know what they will finally look like as just briefly discussed the main idea with my friend- one internal braze will be added and then some suitable veneer etc. We'll see.. :D :D :D

The Fidelity Research FR-64FX tonearm is here and installed to Micro Seiki with Zu DL-103 cartridge. The first LP I plyed with Micro Seiki was Oliver Nelsons Blues and the abstract truth (it was good!) and the next will be chosen by our son who is having day off from school because flue and yesterdays fever:
- "I want the rock album which has the flying carpet at the cover!"
- "Ok. Kingston Wall it is.."

Today spent one hour to investigate the body and soul of the Micro Seiki RP-110 air pump unit. Discovered one loose screw that was the root cause for the small brum from the unit. Also added new rubber feet to the unit and now it is completely silent. Even while using the unit to feed the air bearing system and sucking the LP to the platter no noise at all despite listening from half meter distance. Now the system is fully operational without any issues!
Have also noticed that the Zu DL-103 cartridge works better with the FR-64FX tonearm that I have ever managed to get it work with my SME V tonearm. The midrange and highs are much better I have experienced earlier. Cannot really wait to get my JBLs back in business and then it will be easier for me to make the final verdicts. Also think will wait that time to get some more pics published.. :D :D :D

This was not a surprise to me either. More like somewhat expected result. You know I strongly believe in system synergy between all of the components and have known that Zu DL-103 is not ideal match for SME V. Still in my books that is not considered to be anykind of fault of the tonearm itself, more like an user error :DQuote:

Yup, as ever, synergy is the key :)
However, I like to start by using equipment that to my ears plays music in a way that I think sounds right (read as 'lifelike'/believable), and therefore have a system where every component is 'pulling together' in the same sonic/musical direction, than creating too many instances where 'counterbalancing' different sonic signatures is required, as otherwise it's easy to lose your way and end up going down the wrong path...
It's rather like following a cooking recipe, using too many different ingredients. The fact is, the best (and tastiest) dishes are often those that use the fewest ingredients......... Keep it 'simple, stupid' is always a good policy in hi-fi, as over-complication in any area more often than not destroys the music.
At the end of the day, however, as with anything in life, there's no substitute for experience - and in hi-fi, that's precisely what enables you to make more good decisions than bad ones! :exactly:
