Man, making those jumper cables took forever. But they are in and I have sound (Smashing Pumpkins 'Siamese Dream' to be exact). First impressions are positive. I need to mess with the positioning a bit, maybe. Some serious listening will now commence and I'll be back in a bit :)

I'll be interested to hear about your impressions Martin.

Yup, me too, enjoying this. Nice drive, good meal and a new pair of speakers, good so far :)
Nice selection of guitars there Martin!

Sadly the guitars are just cheap copies that I picked up years ago. I toy with the idea of getting a decent Les Paul copy cause I prefer it to the tele but I'm really too piss poor at playing the things to warrant it.
Anyway yes it has been a good day, I'm now drinking Guinness and listening to Sinatra. Hey, even a stray dog gets a warm piece of the sidewalk sometimes. ;)
Chris who I got the speakers from is a real gentleman. He is also selling his Avondale power amp which was sounding excellent. If anyone is considering it my advice is don't hesitate.
Anyway the verdict so far is that they are very good. Very good indeed. Massively even handed, very open in the mids, listening to the Sinatra monologue now it is almost disturbingly clear and 'real'. They have that modern speaker thing with the emphasised leading edges (compared to a lot of vintage speakers), but I quite like that. With what I have played so far there is no hint of them being harsh or bright.
Really the mid and top is pretty much at electrostatic/panel level. No box to be heard. Bass is okay, goes deep enough to energise the room, not over-emphasised, 'satisfyingly weighty' but still sounds like a ported speaker to me in that the mid bass is a bit softer and woollier than notional perfection. Good soundstaging, which I can probably improve on with a bit of moving them around tomorrow.

Macca's keeping very quiet. Being Saturday, I'm wondering if he's having a drinkie and it's slowing down his updating us on the findings! :D ;)
Ha. I posted too late. The update arrived at the same time.

Nice one Martin, sounds like you have something with a bit more scale and resolution?
-
Inverted titanium domes n'est pas? Nice! You just need some Arkless Electronics amplification to drive them now and job's a good 'n :eyebrows:

Moving the speakers will likely alter the way bass sounds anyway.

They will hopefully do you for a few years anyways til your franky-stein speaks come on line
