Have you tried adjusting VTA 'on the fly', whilst a record is playing, and fine-tuning the results by ear? For me, that's the biggest boon with the stock Technics arm, and of course the FX-1200...

Glad it's worked out well for you. I thought you'd like it! More people should be using this arm on the Techy. It deserves to be as successful as the Jelco (albeit at a higher price) :)

How much is a Jelco, with armboard, mounting collar and a decent tonearm cable?

I bet the price difference isn't huge.
From the looks point of view, I can understand why people don't want to spend the cash on it, but from a performance perspective it's great.
I tend to buy with my ears when shopping for Hifi. Sure, I'll read reviews but the final decision comes down to what sounds good (unless the Mrs is with me, then it's what sounds good, looks wife friendly, and what matches the soft furnishings).

It's a shame I don't live closer as I could bring my deck round for one of you to drop your platter on for a listen. It does not have a fancy PSU or the regulator mods, but you would get a flavour for the sound (and I would hear what the platter does).

the sa-750d on mine cost £500 new with armboard and cable. would be another £50ish for a collar. (mine is fine without, though i'll probably get one at somepoint)

I personally think the Jelco can take on and beat arms costing 2-3 times more (in my experience anyway)

Don't forget there is a new limited edition Jelco with silver wiring on the way (shameless plug but it's essential news for Techy owners)
