Actually if you do want to know the time when it's not 2.20 you could always move the hands to the time when you know you'll want to check it.

Looks like a proper bit of kit, but not sure I have ever heard one.

They were usually built in to antique style cabinets to blend seamlessly into the modern home.

As I recall the sound wasn’t anything to write home about.
