I was in a similar situation (on top of a hill). I owned quite a few rigs over the years on both AM & FM, a few were good but most were crap. The best rig I owned for clarity, punch and bleedover rejection was a plain vanilla 40ch Harrier CB bought new from Dixons for £49.99. The damn thing didn't need a power mike, it was as clear as a bell. I could reach out as far as the A14 junction on the M6 and RAF Wittering on the A1 on a straight four watts. When I joined the local monitors group I upped that to 80 watts courtesy of Bremi. F*ck me, it has been donkeys years since I used CB speak, I wonder what the scene is like today?

The reception I got was so good that I could 'DX' to guys abroad, in the likes of France and Italy (this was from Glasgow), when the 'skip' conditions were right! It was called 'skiptalking'. Did you ever do that? :)

This was my fave CB radio Marco. As I said, very plain Jane to look at but the money was spent on the innards. It was a terrific performer :)
