Both great Albums, though I personally prefer Steve McQueen and Penthouse and Pavement respectively.
Yeh P+P is funkier, the less commercial offering.
Not wishing to teach you to suck eggs but, if you really don't know the era, Japan, Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Cabaret Voltaire, The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, The The, The Human League, The Specials, Fun Boy Three (amongst many others) are all well worth exploring.Quote:

LOL, I've got LPs by the first 4 acts mentioned there, I'm an 80s kid, but wasn't into contemporary music back then, I backtracked on it during the 90s and since. Other 80's groups I like are Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Nine Below Zero, and Elvis Costello.
Generally I regarded most of the 80's groups as being ephemeral: I would buy several, listen to them for a few weeks and then pass them on.

IMO it's "OK", but not much more. On the contrary it took me a long time to resolve a love-hate attitude to Steely Dan, in the end realised that I do like them to the extent of possessing a copy of all of their recordings. After the death of Walter Becker, I checked out the solo career of Donald Fagin. But sadly like with that of Peter Gabriel, I haven't been impressed.

One of the first CDs I ever bought, not been played in a very long time, but still remember all the lyrics!
The Wonderstuff were everywhere in the early 90s, and I saw them about half a dozen times without even trying! I have another of theirs (Never Loved Elvis), but haven't played it in years.
I've not heard of The Wonderstuff.
Probably best known for their cover of Tommy Roe's "Dizzy" with Vic Reeves. But they were more than just that, and were a pretty talented bunch, especially their drummer Martin Gilks who unfortunately crashed his motorbike and died.Quote:
