I’d say watching black and white movies is equal to listening to music on mono records. It may lack the sound stage, etc, but it doesn’t affect the performance. To boldly announce that you refuse to listen to mono recordings, would seem rather strange?
We get the Turner Classic Movie channel on our cable, for free! Well, no extra charge anyway, and the movies are commercial free, which is nice. Their old black and white movies run the gamut, from stuffy old artsy stuff, filmed in one room, to grand westerns with constantly running horses and gunfire! But in the end, a good movie, is a good movie. And, I find it true that the earlier movie stars were actually better actors. With no special effects to assist, they actually had to act their way through a scene.
And the occasional cult classic! Like “White Zombi”, or “Gun Crazy”, both worth a look.
