Thanks for the recommendation Grant. A good mixture of styles: blues, blues jazz, with a bit of TexMex horns thrown in for good measure - but it's all up to Taj's high standard.

Big Joe Williams.
Recorded in London in 1968 when in his 60,s. Using his odd 9 string guitar with a pickup. The blues historian Barry Lee Pearson (Sounds Good to Me: The Bluesman's Story, Virginia Piedmont Blues) described Williams's performance:
When I saw him playing at Mike Bloomfield's "blues night" at the Fickle Pickle, Williams was playing an electric nine-string guitar through a small ramshackle amp with a pie plate nailed to it and a beer can dangling against that. When he played, everything rattled but Big Joe himself. The total effect of this incredible apparatus produced the most buzzing, sizzling, African-sounding music I have ever heard

During the early 1930s, Williams was accompanied on his travels through the Mississippi Delta by a young Muddy Waters. Williams recounted to Blewett Thomas, "I picked Muddy up in Rolling Fork when he was about 15. He went all 'round the Delta playin' harmonica behind me. But I had to put him down after awhile. All these women were comin' up to me and sayin', 'Oh. your young son is so nice!' See, I had to put Muddy down because he was takin' away my women."
John Hammond Jr. Although critically acclaimed, Hammond has received only moderate commercial success. Nonetheless, he enjoys a strong fan base and has earned respect from John Lee Hooker, Roosevelt Sykes, Duane Allman, Willy Deville, Robbie Robertson, Mike Bloomfield and Charlie Musselwhite, all of whom have contributed their musical talents to his records. In addition, he is the only person who ever had both Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix in his band at the same time, if only for five days in the 1960s, when Hammond played The Gaslight Cafe in New York City.

An unusual one from the freebie attic collection. I am not sure how to take this one, Mr Delaney obviously was a very accomplished drummer, having played with Ted Heath, Geraldo (7), Bert Ambrose and with various bands of his own, but this comes across as slightly tongue in cheek big band music with some rather elaborate and amusing arrangements. Don't get me wrong it is very well produced and as one would expect it is musically very tight but at times it conjures up and image of sitting in some 50's cafe or bar trying to hang on to an era that is slipping away, with this playing in the background.
