I couldn't agree more!! And also your point about the work REAL bin men used to do. We've always had coal fires, so the metal bins they collected from the back of the house (and slung over their shoulders) were also full of spent coal and ash! Lazy fucks now...

As you say, now we've to turn our homes into mini (unpaid) 'recycling stations'. and separate out everything for them in neat little 'piles', even though we pay through the nose for said 'service' in Council Tax - where exactly does that money go...??

We have one of those 'trolleys' on wheels, with individual compartments (stacked plastic boxes) for cardboard and paper, plastics and cans, and glass, which we have to wheel down our rather long driveway, along with a separate black bin and a small grey recycling bin, for all food wastage. We also have two green bins for garden refuse, as we have a large garden.

It can certainly be 'fun', shlepping that lot down to the bottom of the road when they're full (for collection the following day) in the wind and pissing rain!!:D:doh:

That makes my life sound easy by comparison. I suppose if we had children we could have them do it. Or maybe a really clever dog. But then there's all the problems and hassles that come with owning dogs or children.

If they've not got you one way, they've got you another.

My refuse man comes in to git my bins and then returns them.

Does he have to do that though?

I only have to move the bin about 4 feet from where it normally sits to the pavement. But if I don't do that they won't take it.

He does for me, yes.

I have a green bin for food/general waste, grey for garden waste, blue for plastic, brown for paper/card, and an eight-yarder for everything else :D

Grey bin costs £30 a year, skip is £235 a month.

The fact is, we all pay through the nose for a 'refuse collection service' that WE are increasingly doing the work for, whilst council workers do the bare minimum - rather like using 'self-service' checkouts in supermarkets, under the guise that you're 'helping yourself'!:doh:

I've always believed that if I pay for something, indirectly or otherwise, then *I* should be the one being SERVED - not indulging in 'DIY'!!:exactly:

Our local council have pissed me off as they are now charging for garden waste removal from next February. We’ve always had two garden bags but now we have the options of a smaller bin for £39 per year or a bigger bin for £59. Alternatively we can keep using the bags but still have to pay £39!

However given that. If I do our lawns and hedges all in one go, I fill both garden bags and two to three of those white bags that builders deliver shingle/topsoil in by the ton, so I make regular entries to the dump anyway. Consequently I’m not paying extra - they can sod off!

What gets me is they charge stupid prices for commercial waste disposal and then complain that they have to spend millions cleaning up fly-tipping.
