Bin day today, went out to get the bin back in and it was twenty yards down the street. Idle bastards.
There's still a recycling bin on the pavement outside from last week - belongs on the other side of the road.
I remember when the bin man came right down the side of the house, picked up the bin (and they were metal in those days and had some weight to them even empty) took it out, emptied it and put it back where he found it. Nowadays it's just a piss-take.
Next they'll be telling us we have to empty the bin into the lorry ourselves too. And go down to the depot to give the lorry a service and a clean at the weekend. There'll be a rota for that, though, won't be every weekend.

That's what it's like here. Although in theory they can fine you for leaving it on the pavement.
There's alleys that run along the back of all the rows that were purposely designed to provide service access for bin collections and that.
Which they used to do, you just slung your bin bags over the wall into the alley the night before collection and you were done. But now everything has to be as easy as possible for the binmen and a massive pain in the arse for the people who are paying them. Because that has to make sense.
Here the food waste is collected every week and the bins are emptied by 08:00. Black bins alternate with Brown bins (for the garden waste), as do plastic and paper, with glass/tins and cardboard. Fresh rolls of plastic bags for both the food waste (bin liners) and for plastic waste are provided each year along with the collection schedule. The local council have it pretty well organised.Quote:
