I once exhaustvely compared the butyl surrounded 12" Golds with normal surround Golds and also Silvers.
My controversial conclusion was that the butyl surround Golds were the best sound. Anyone else tried this and found similar?

I've only owned the rubber (butyl) surround version of the 12" Golds, so I can't say.
