There is so much to be said in favour of using local shops and services. It took BT and Open Reach six weeks to NOT correct a fault with my landline and broadband but I called a small, local company, they came out the same day, traced and fixed the fault and all for £60....bargain. After the bad weather recently my satellite signal was playing up, missing channels etc. Absolutely no help with the provider so again I called a local aerial and satellite dish installer, came the next day and found that the LND was broken and full of water. New LND £45 and £30 callout and labour. It's not just the great service I've had but good advice and recommendations for other tradespeople, word of mouth is better than all the flashy advertising.
You know you don't have to buy the overpriced tat, and as for numpties, well they are everywhere you look, and shows aren't immune. But I've met some of the forum members at them, including Firebottle and his wife Shirley, Allen (Audio Al), Ali Tait, and Mike (JacHawk), none of whom are numpties :).Quote:

That's the spirit Ian! The big companies you mention have vans, admin people, advertising budgets, and (probably) greedy shareholders. Smaller firms and one man bands often can't afford advertising, and rely on "word of mouth". Certainly is the case with me.Quote:
