I dont think you can buy and import them as a completed unit. So some building is inevitible
Building it is very straight forward. Most of the effort goes into the preparation of the case. You need to supply 12vDC, some spacers and a case. Price was around 100 dollars if I remember correctly without the case . I got one similar to this one

You are I think confusing what are open faced LDRs used in many consumer goods even street lamps as light sensors, with the parts used amongst many parts to create a LDR preamp which are audio optocouplers.
Attachment 15548
These are quite different being encapsulated devices with 4 connections on one side a anode and cathode, and on the other what is called the cell being the variable resistor
activated by more or less light intensity. The attached image assists to explain the internal parts.
I use the NSL32SR2S and NSL32SR3 made by Silonex now Advanced Photonixs of Canada.
Indeed, that's where good friends, who are 'handy', come in handy!
You wonder if some sad old gits elsewhere actually have any friends, or if they're just lonely, rather pitiable inadequates, dredging through their malcontented and unfulfilled lives, jealous of anyone who's genuinely HAPPY...? ;)

Is there a link to the Stereo Coffee website anywhere?
The one I have found through Google does not work. Just interested in having a further read while I wait for long term feedback.
