Too many CDs

How many are classical?

Well I have at long last catalogued and housed all my CDs. For those that might be interested there are:

Classical - 672 CDs

Jazz - 521 CDs

Blues and R&B - 284 CDs

and

Rock, Pop and Folk - 1975.

Thus a total of 3,452, which if you include a few "odds and sods" such as test discs and samplers comes to around 3,500.

So not as many as some have here, but enough for me. :)

:eek: If anyone here has more than that, they probably own a record shop. And are these all 'keepers'? I know you don't tend to hang on to titles you're not keen on.

I think you need to split out pop, rock and folk it's too wide a genre range. Or is that just one CD by the band 1975?

I did very rough count and it seems I have around 800 which is a lot more than when I last counted when it was about 300.

About 50 are jazz and the rest rock, pop, blues, RnB and hip-hop. No classical except for 2, both compilations and one of those is a Naim sampler disc and isn't all classical.

I have eight, filed between ZZ Top and Anita's 'Now' CDs.

It looks like I have about 700 CDs, not including the 'Now' ones. The shelving I made for them is at capacity, so I'm unlikely to increase on that number as I don't want them to be piled up in corners or boxed up, the dining room's enough of a tip as it is.

I need some more storage as I'm already overflowing and I still have albums on my want list. 800 is enough to be going on with though.

I've got about 10 world music CDs and the other 1990 are rock, pop, classical, jazz, blues, R&B, folk, rap, hip hop, dance, electronic and country.

There is at least one Member here (a fellow admirer of Kylie Minogue) who has 5,000 CDs, and I think Peter (Majex45) might have a similar number. However it's not a competition.

What has surprised me is that I inherited about 2,000 CD to add to my own collection of a similar number. There were of course many duplications, but in having ended up with 3,500 CDs it looks like Oxfam have benefited from a donation of 800 discs.

I'm still working my way through the new additions, and of course I shall dispose of those that don't "do it for me".



(PS I have just remembered I have a couple of drawers containing about 200 CDs, which were not part of my original estimate. The discs are 'World' or ethnic music (about 120), and spoken word: audio-books as well as radio comedy recordings.)
