Ah, the lovely Vincent.
Good lord, no, I'm on my 3rd amp since then.

There's a complication I hadn't thought of the dust cap in a conventional driver, it must compress/come out as the driver moves as it's not stiff. So probably still comparable with DCs but I need to think about my ratios again [emoji38]

Better to overestimate than underestimate I think.
Thanks Geoff, not so sure, I have had a raging headache on and off now for about 3 days, and sometimes nausea and I am on a very low dose. Even popping paracetomols just seems to dull it. According to the spec. sheet for Nicorandil 1 in 10 get headaches. It seems to have minimised the Angina I have been getting, but to be honest I am not sure which is worse. Maybe my body will get used to the drug and the headaches will subside, I will give it till Monday and speak with the GP if its not improved by then.
A quick update on the Arden listening front.
As I posted on Al's thread I have made and put shielded earthing cables to them. I was sceptical about it but it definitely has improved the blackness/depth as others describe it, which makes for a better musical experience.
I have been listening to the Arden's quite a bit and I am very very impressed and pleased with them. I think I have noticed an improvement in tone and openness in the soundstage since I first plugged them up on Tuesday, so I am wondering about how much they have actually been used. Perhaps they have not done that many hours and need a few to settle down as it were.
Anyway I am very pleased with what I am hearing, and thanks for everyone's kind comments.
A bit late to the party Adrian, but you seemed to have netted a fine pair of speakers in first class condition. Well done.
Enjoy them :)
Barry (a Tannoy agnostic)
The last time I heard Tannoy speakers it was about thirty years ago - the cabinets were massive, so big you could have climbed inside them! More recently I have heard Marco's Tannoy drivers in Lockwood cabinets and enjoyed listening to them. But without spending considerable time with them I remain largely agnostic concerning the performance differences of the various driver designs: 'pepperpots' or 'tulips'.
However I have heard very little that would persuade me to abandon my Quad 57s; speakers I have used for the last forty five years!
Quad 57s sound like something from the Spanish inquisition, saying that they look like racks to me. Are you sure your are meant to listen to them? [emoji23][emoji23]
Only joking I have many years ago hear a pair and they were impressive in certain respects.
