Was subjected to a surprise birthday party tonight, completely unexpected but very pleasant.

Yes that would be much better :)
I probably shouldn't be talking about cakes, I've been cake-free for 2 months now. But my sponsor thinks the more I talk about it the better. Cravings have reduced quite a bit, though I find I'm smoking more to compensate. Small price to pay I suppose.
Thanks for the new avatar Marco, this pic was for your eyes only, and a few select friends. Now you've made it public, how will I ever be able to show my face at the Masonic lodge? I'm not even a full member yet.
The twelfth step is the hardest, where you have to go round and apologise to everyone for eating their cakes.
Myself I was on the wagon for two years until I had some bad news one day and I ate an entire Cadbury's Flake cake. I was halfway through it before I even realised what I was doing. It's that fresh dairy cream. You never really lose the craving for it.
The vet gave me a scrip so I'm back down to two chocolate eclairs a day. Feeling strong enough now that I think I can cut down it to one by the end of the month.
Thank you for sharing. A truly inspirational story.
Apart from a few small consequences, like ridicule, obesity, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, teeth falling out, ours is a relatively benign addiction unlike the big four (alcohol, gambling, hard drugs, hi fi collecting) - these are the ones that wreck lives, so we should count ourselves lucky.

I don’t quite know what to say about this, so I’m just leaving it here. The caption did say it was fully functional. So where does one buy the tiny records?
Russell
Amazon(ian Shrunken Heads). The catalogue is quite small, but they've just added "Giant" by Rag 'n' Bone Man/Calvin Harris. Gonna be huge.
Just got this worktop saver [emoji4]

Little bit "out there" but could be useful...https://youtu.be/0FE88e8LO2w
Just don't watch it. I used to keep up with current affairs, could name you all the cabinet and shadow cabinet minsters, all that shit. Gave up watching the news about 5 years ago. I came to the conclusion that there's just no point in it. Don't feel any worse for it, the opposite in fact.
I don't mate (only really the local Welsh stuff), but what rips my knitting is when programmes I want to watch, such as Eggheads, are just inconsiderately 'cancelled' because some ARSE at the BBC has decided, ON MY BEHALF, that Brexit PISH is more important!!:steam:
Marco.
Not a suntan mate - I warned Mrs. Pony to bin that week-old kebab. As a result she had a ten second warning in the wee small hours, and as she climbed over me to get to the bog, did the mother of all wet trumps on my face. I slept through it, and by morning it had dried on, and nothing will shift it. There was a very tasty little pip stuck to my nose though, which I couldn't resist :)
:rfl:
Oh yes, she likes being pipped at the post. :eyebrows:
While I'm on here, can anyone tell me if it's possible to view the selling history of a particular item on ebay?
Thanks for that Geoff, right now the pub beckons, so I'll check it out tomorrow :)
Why would you do that to yourself? If you're going to give up something, at least choose something you don't like anyway :D
Last night was the first time I've been in a pub this year (apart from getting a bite to eat). I met my brother and some of his mates - I was only there from 7pm till 8.30. His friend and neighbour who was there, goes in this pub with his wife every Friday at 5pm, and stays till kicking out time. I couldn't afford to do that, even if I wanted to.
Havent had a drink for a couple of years...certainly feels that long [emoji23]
Lol - the idea is that you choose something difficult to give up, so it tests your willpower. In reality, in that respect, I'd be harder for me to have given up listening to music, watching TV or posting on here for six weeks, than alcohol. I don't really miss it, save when I sit down to a nice Sunday lunch with a glass of mineral water, rather than Margaux!
Other than that, I'm happy with soft drinks, water and tea/coffee, which at any time of the year, is what I drink most:)
Marco.
Forgive my ignorance, but is Lent a Catholic thing? I, and most people I come across aren't Catholics, but I know lots of these folk have "given something up" for Lent. I suppose lots of people embrace it for other reasons, making lifestyle changes, albeit temporary, rather like that most temporary of changes, the New Year resolutions.
I have given up pancakes for Lent, and as I didn't have any on Shrove Tuesday, Lent will be particularly lengthy this year.
Talking about pancakes has now made me want some, so sod it, I'm going to make some! I'll just abstain from having them with ice cream :)
I actually did have a pancake on pancake day this year, first time in decades. It was from Asda though :(
Never tried shop-bought ones, I assume you would just microwave them for a few minutes.
I should give them a go - the shittest part of pancake days for me is that I get the job of making them, which means about an hour of making the damned things for everyone, with just a few minutes eating them.
About 30 seconds in the microwave.
Prefer the American style short stack with butter, ice cream and maple syrup myself. Could eat that right now in fact.
Ah I see... Can't comment on other Christians, as I'm not au fait with their faith. However for Catholics, on certain days, such as Good Friday, it's what's called fast and abstinence, and you shouldn't eat meat then, and indeed just lightly all day.
As I said, giving up alcohol for 6 weeks really isn't that big a deal. as alcohol doesn't rule my life. In fact, I'm not addicted to anything. I miss having a few glasses of wine with a nice meal at home, and if we're going out to a country pub, I miss having a pint of real ale, but that's it.
It would be much harder giving up home-cooked food, and eating ready meals, or Mc Donalds for 6 weeks!!:spew:
Marco.
