Yes, as a covers album it's a decent job :) But she's a pretty good songwriter in her own right, and so onto this...

It's not something I've thought about, but I'd say easily half of my albums are female artists. I suppose I just prefer mostly female vocals, at least ones from this century. My 60s/70s/80s stuff is probably male-dominated, y'know, Bowie, Roxy, Floyd, Hendrix, Steely Dan to name a few :)
Anita will be leaving the house shortly for an hour or two, so I'll find something proper blokey, just for you :) (that could be the first two lines of a song for a blokey band, like Erasure) :eyebrows:
There you go Loz, will this do? :)

Yes, when I first played it (can't believe it's almost ten years since it was released) I was disappointed too. I found it to be rather formulaic, with nothing standing out (rather like the Stones' latest effort). Perhaps best described as competent.
I'd seen Johnson at a one-day festival in Doncaster, and had hoped this album would be along similar lines, but it wasn't. A couple more listens have improved things, but only a bit.
on the doormat today. :D

JARRE - EQUINOXE INFINITY; SUPERB FOLLOW UP TO THE ORIGINAL EQUINOXE. I HAVE THE COPY WITH THE RARER 2ND COVER (AS PER THE ILLUSTRATION (NOT THAT THIS MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE TO THE SOUND QUALITY; MERELY HIGHLIGHTING THAT THEIR ARE 2 COVER VERSIONS OF THE ALBUM). THIS ALBUM IS REALLY GREAT - I RECOMMENDED IT TO ANY FAN OF JARRE!!!
Another female artist. Sorry Loz.

Death of a Ladies' Man

I have that, as well as his earlier work, which was not easily available in record shops. I recall going into HMV to order it; when the guy behind the counter asked for his name and title of the work so he could look it up on their database, he thought I was taking the micky when I said "John Smith". Nevertheless he persevered and a copy was ordered.
I liked his early stuff (Marco, Del, a mutual friend and I saw him perform in Wrexham), but when he moved to the States his work became more commercial and not to my taste.
