At 11 years old, the Highlander was bottled on 9 September 2019, with a release of 234 limited bottles at 60% ABV. This is a wonderfully honeyed affair.

Christmas is the best time in the U.S./ California to buy a nice bottle, the sales and selection start getting better mid November just before Thanksgiving and by Dec 40% to 50% off!
Even really good stuff is priced to sell .Because retailers have to pay tax on what ever doesn't sell by January 1.
It is also better to buy in Nevada and drive it home to California as there is no taxes.
The bottles you are showing now are Christmas bottles here.
Glengoyne, Glenfarclas, Glendronach for sherried are always good.. Older ones pref if you see them.
Other distilleries to watch for are likes of Edradour, Glenglassach, Glen Grant, Springbank, Deanston, Hazelburn.. Wolfburn are back so stuff is still young but worth the finding too. Dalmore 15 Yr old is a cracker too

I have been reading a bottle of whiskey needs to be consumed with in 4 months of opening it or it looses its flavor.
Is that B.S. ? Because Grant drinks a different drop each night.
You either have 50 open bottles or a really bad liver.
Hoping it's not the latter as I have been there 4 years ago.
So I am taking it easy. 2 ounces twice a week.
I keep mine in a dark pantry and our house is on the cool side of the thermostat.
Sometimes 3 nights if I have company.
Depends on storage and age really. Older whiskies won't react to air very much while younger ones will. Cool and in lowish light a 10yr old will be fine for a few years OK. A 20 Yr old will last a lot longer. They won't go off, but at worst might change a little. Not nessesarilly for worse, just different

So, I shouldn't stress over anything in a cool dark pantry for at least a year.
My Step dad used to only buy 1.75 liter bottles of reasonably priced booze as he always offered drinks to everyone.
Thanksgiving dinner we had well over 80 people for dinner they would have gallon bottles of Gallow wine on the tables ,2 big turkeys made in Mom's double ovens.
They would go through wine,beer and mixed drinks till nearly midnight and drive home with one eye closed. My Mom had 7 brother and sisters alone,in-laws kids ,her Mom and Dad then me my brothers and sisters their kids and Toms Mother and Father . That small cabinet had constant rotation. He always had a drink and a cigar going. My Moms family all built houses on the same street less than a mile from us. So someone was always stopping by for a drink. This is the exact opposite of our house.We are never home as Conner plays Baseball , BMX racing or Basketball all year but when parents or coaches come by it's nice to have a few open bottles to choose from.
Covid has slowed our roll but soon Baseball may reopen. And getting together for a drink is part of the culture.
Not if its been aged say 10yrs or more. Most change will be in first week of air getting at a bottle. Often improves it a bit by taking off the ethenol nose hit. I usually did this with a certain tennessee sippin' whiskey. Decanted it into 2 bottles. Improved it nicely.
You could set up a nice test. Take some that's been in a bottle for a year v some out of a new bottle. Blind test it. [emoji23]
I just bought a bottle of Red Breast 12 Cask Strength 55.8% thats just over 111 proof .
Sure to kill Covid 19.
I got it for when my sons pitching coach comes over, he keeps a stock pile of Red breast of most vintages.
He likes the 12 year, the Lustow Edition, and 21 year but oddly doesn't care for the 15 year.
The most expensive bottle in the house, thats for sure.
Not tried the cask strength. Might need a splash of h2o for me. Quite fancy trying it tho

This happens sometimes as they order cases for each of there many locations. So they may order 500 bottles a year of just one product.

Grant, had you in mind,
A friend of mine got a bottle of Whistle pig 6 year and I bought a bottle of Pikesville 6 year.
The Pikesville really has a beautiful almost copper color.
Both are Rye Whiskey in the $50.00 price range ,both are well respected.
Being Rye Whiskeys you would expect them to taste similar, well they don't.
The Whistle pig is light in color by comparison but much darker,spicier ,nutmag and cinnamon and peat wood , The Pikesville is mint,cherry,citrus and oak and just hints of cinnamon.
The Pikesville is 110 proof and the burn is sharp at the finish but just a drop of water makes a huge difference making the finish smooth and longer lasting.
The W.P.6 was just under 100 proof 96.56 proof if I remember right and tastes darker than it looks Earthy comes to mind.
They are both very good but totally different animals, I would drink either one Pikesville is 59% Rye 39% corn 10% malted barley , W.P. is 100% Rye.
The Pikesville dose have more bite on the finish, if your sipping totally neat but it wouldn't be a deal beaker for me ,Id get another bottle .Just add 2 to 4 drops of water from a straw.
A Bourbon drinker would love Pikesville mint,cherry, oak ,the W.P is very dry and Earthy. No confusing one for the other thats for sure.
