pale golden IPA - at first glance I thought it looked a bit like a lager, perhaps more golden.
Very light malt/creamy scent with a touch of citrus.
It doesn't look very fizzy/carbonated but when it gets in the mouth a very fine expansion of bubbles, lovely mousse.
Taste, surprising - light malt/toffee, nettles/grass? some citrus but not over the top grapefruit like some.
Must be careful with this - 5.5% and doesn't feel like it, I could end up drinking it like a session beer and fall over when I go to pour myself my fifth or sixth bottle.

My understanding for Rye is the first 6 weeks of barrel aging is the spirit taking on the sugars and tannins of the chard wood and the next 4 years of the aging proses is those same sugars and tannins being broken down.
The latter part just can't be rushed and very little occurs after 6 years so for Rye 6 years is a good time to bottle it. Some even argue there is a point that Rye breaks down so much you start to loose some of the flavor.

Rye is same as bourbon regs in many ways. It you want to call it straight rye it has to be aged min 2 years. Under 4 it has to have an age statement.Quote:

This is not your average Rye, It is mostly Rye and Barley and very little corn. 65%Rye, 20%malted barley 15% corn.
Fruity,spicy,malty . Every review has been a Wow ! from the taster and I couldn't agree more. It is also the Darkest Rye in my small stash.

Grant, what do you think of Rittenhouse, I was going to recask some but the Old Forester is so good I will probably go with that.
I have not had Rittenhouse but it has a fallowing here for old Fashions.

We have a similar and opposite problem the us has. Imported stuff from States is usually very expensive or not available at all.
Scotch is probably similar over there. Pikesville rye as an instance is £72 here plus delivery a bottle taking it into luxury levels
Here it is $45.00 to $55.00 for Pikesville 110, but we have sales tax and taxes on booze. $50.00 + tax $56.55 in California.Quote:

Looks promising Grant the color of that rye is pure sunshine.
I normally like a darker drop but I've had golden yellow with a lot of fruitiness and still some spice, I wonder how much of the mash bill is corn?
Could be i'm way off but most of the rye Ive had that have that golden yellow color are 51% rye and 49% corn and they tend to be a little sweeter.
It's 10% malted rye, 90% unmalted rye.. All Canadian. Then in 3 different oak casks.
Dry and spicy. Needs a drop of h2o for me

Kraken is the worse Rum ever, and not because its a Dark Rum,I like a good Dark Rum . It's bad because it's fortified molasses.(Nasty sweet tar)
It's thick and way overly crude. So I tried to mix it with Sailor Jerry's to thin it out and break the sweet black tar into something drinkable.
No such luck, so I mixed in tome Coke zero because the last thing this needed was more sugar.
It is nearly drinkable but not my favorite so I will give this bottle to anyone that will take it and in my neighborhood it won't be to hard.

I pored boiling water in and after a couple hours there was just a couple small areas seeping,so I dumped out the water and rinsed out loose charcoal till it was clean.
Refilled with water and sealed the whole cask with a heat gun and 100% natural bees wax.
After letting it air out. I filled it full of Sailor Jerry's Rum and it will soak into the wood for 2 months then be drained out let air and filled with Old Foresters Rye Whiskey 100 proof for 1 year.
It dose hold every bit of 2 liters. I want it to swell mostly with Rum not so much water so the cask will be able to impart some of the sweet spice notes to the Rye whiskey.

Here in the U.S. right now the coveted bottles seems to be Pappy Van Winkle and Whistle Pig.
I have seen Whistle Pig 6 year for sale but way over MSRP , even though it is illegal to price gouge during a crises.
Liquor sellers just got put on notice for this and there is a class action law suite so it is a good time to buy at the higher end.
I have wanted to try W.P. but not at $30% over full retail .
Seems Covid 19 has sold a lot of good booze and as the better stuff comes down to realistic prices I may get a bottle.

Not tried this before. Bought on a whim some time ago so time to try. Nikka from the barrel.. This is 51.4% so potent stuff.

Nose is very floral and vanilla.
edit... very smooth for 51%.. a little drop of water has opened up the spices and fruit... quite nice this for a blend...:)

One of the best distilleries in the Highlands. Is it their new 43% 12yr old?
I've a bottle of legacy open at moment and a lovely delacate whisky. I've also a fancier one at cask strength.
You'll enjoy that. Don't be afraid to pop a spot of spring water in if it is a little firey.
