It would seem a more indepth explanation is needed for some here rather than a one liner!
First of all, Nick [Lurcher] fully understood my explanation, which is why he wrote what he did, The vibration quote was merely about components being subjected to vibration whilst equipment was being transported, ie; smaller, more compact components whilst under the influence of inertia, and more often than not rough handling, are in my opinion, and experience more likely to survive, than electronic assemblies built with more conventional, ie; larger, heavier components etc, and since a lot of what i have built over the years has gone abroad, it made perfect sense to me to use an attenuator which utilised small components that were less likely to get disturbed by the sometimes violent nature of transportation!

Yes, and the stepped attenuators you use (DACT, with SMD resistors fitted) also happen to sound very good, because if they didn't, then no matter how 'safe' things were in transit, you wouldn't use them! ;)
