MCRU Ultimate Mk. III Cables

My comments weren't aimed solely at you, Richard. You just chipped in when the thread had already, as Dave (Thing Fish) said 'decended into the usual sniping and digging about mains cables'.

They were aimed at everyone whose posts here contributed to the above situation. Alan S has a particular penchant for 'poking' those who can hear the differences made by using 'fancy mains cables', whenever he sees an opportunity to do so, just because he can't hear what those people can, and it has to stop. He is also not alone in that respect.

It's very important on this forum that anyone who wants to eulogise about or express their pleasure/excitement about the effect of their new mains cables (or anything else related to improving their hi-fi system), can do so without folk 'raining on their parade', as it were.

Now I know that Martin is a big boy and can look after himself, but the behaviour I'm referring to above sends out the wrong message on AoS, which must always be remembered is primarily a subjectivist forum, and it may prevent others, not as thick-skinned as Martin, expressing their delight or posting their impressions of the improvements a new mains lead (or whatever) has made to their system - and I simply will not allow that.

As I've said before, we don't gag people here, so if anyone wants to be as critical as they like (within the boundaries of respect and decency) about the efficacy of mains cables, then ensure that it is done either on a thread started specifically for that purpose, or on one already started by someone else, relating to that topic, and NOT on a thread such as this.

I do hope that I've made myself clear and do not have to issue bans to offenders (which I will do in future, if this happens again), in order to get the message across about the kind behaviour that is expected here.

Everywhere I've tried then has been successful.
Can't remember if we had fuses or circuit breakers before the house was refurbed.

No they're not. They are both rated to 10A but the C15/16 type that has the notch is temperature rated to 120degC compared to the 70degC of the standard C13/14 type.

Just to give you the courtesy of confirming I have read this post. Its your forum and you can make whatever rules or requirements that please you.

BTW as points of fact I have never used the term 'fancy mains cables'. Don't take my word for it all you or anyone else interested has to do is a site search for the word fancy and my username = result zero. Fancy is your term not mine. I am sure you can appreciate I resent being accused of something I haven't done/don't do.

Again use search and see how often threads with the subject of mains cables get posted and my username does not make a post on that thread. Don't take my word for it.

Alan, I know that you haven't used the term 'fancy mains cables', hence why I put it in inverted commas. I used it simply as a generic term to describe what is considered by some as 'foo' (those who feel that simple 'kettle leads' are good enough to power their equipment), which, based on your comments to date on this forum about the matter, is a category you appear to fit into. In that respect, I could've also used the term 'foo mains leads', even though, to my knowledge, you haven't used that term yourself either.

Therefore, I'm not accusing you of the above. Furthermore, I also know that you don't comment on every single mains cable thread, but you do turn up on a few of them, and it's always to say the same old thing (that you can't hear any difference with using audiophile-designed mains cables) [that description is mine, not yours]. I'm sorry, but whether you realise it or not, you do come across as having a bit of a bee in your bonnet about this subject, and so seem to enjoy being the voice of dissent.

Now that's absolutely fine on a general thread about mains cables, where you're entitled to your opinion the same as anyone else, but NOT on a thread such as this where someone has purchased some new mains cables and wants to relate to like-minded enthusiasts the details of their experience. In that situation, the only comments that are acceptable are those either congratulating the OP on his purchase, perhaps by someone who already uses the same cables and knows how good they are, or by those who want to know more details about them, with a view to buying some themselves.

It is NOT acceptable for anyone to 'thread crap' the discussion by adding input that has nothing to do with what the OP wants to discuss - and judging by his comments, it is clear that Martin didn't appreciate such input. If you want to tell everyone about how much a waste of money and how ineffective/unnecessary you think 'fancy mains cables' are, then start a separate thread about it. It's as simple as that, which is all I am asking you (or anyone else) here to do.

It is essentially the same rule as we apply on private or trade sales threads. It is applied simply as a matter of courtesy and to ensure that the best interests of the OP are met.

Really? So if (as has happened in the past) I buy and try something and don't like the results, does that mean I'm not allowed to express a contrary opinion to someone who has had positive results with the same item?
