Much like its predecessor, 'Nine Objects of Desire' integrates experimental instrumentation and arrangements into Vega's signature sound. Elements of jazz are present on tracks such as "Caramel" and "Tombstone". Lyrically, the album takes a more personal turn in comparison to Vega's other albums, forgoing character pieces and instead taking heavy inspiration from her personal life.

More pop and rock than her previous LPs. This time the theme is human relations expressed through aspects of the human body; its physiognomy. Feelings and desires are sung about using the metaphors of blood and of medical fantasies. All sounds a bit "odd", but it's not really - her lyrics just make you want to listen carefully.

By no means morbid, this LP is quite upbeat, 'bouncy' and at times quite danceable. It's one of my favourite Suzanne Vega LPs.
