In an attempt to answer Steve's question about what new Suzanne Vega disc to buy next, I've been working my way through her early catalogue. So to start:
Suzanne Vega - 'Suzanne Vega'
Her debut album and certainly different from a lot of girly warblers in the imagination of her songs. Quite folky in style, without souding as such.
Now on to here second LP:
Suzanne Vega - 'Solitude Sounding'
Often an artist's second LP fails to live up to the originality and freshness of their debut. Not so with 'Solitude Standing' - in some ways, IMO, it surpasses her first. The subject matter of the songs are even more imaginative and the instrumentation more sophisticated.
Yes, I'd go along with what you're saying there, I look forward to your thoughts on her subsequent releases, to help me choose where to go next with her catalogue. Chronological order might make the most sense though.
Some great choices so far in the female vocal area.

Suzanne Vega - 'Days of Open Hand'
By now Suzanne Vega has settled in and her LPs are starting to have a definite theme. In this case, the theme is of dreams, chance, fortune telling and divination: the tarot; palmistry; ceromancy, etc.. it is quite a dark LP with references to madness and psychiatric hospitals. Not an LP I play very often!
Suzanne Vega - '99.9Fo'
More pop and rock than her previous LPs. This time the theme is human relations expressed through aspects of the human body; its physiognomy. Feelings and desires are sung about using the metaphors of blood and of medical fantasies. All sounds a bit "odd", but it's not really - her lyrics just make you want to listen carefully.
By no means morbid, this LP is quite upbeat, 'bouncy' and at times quite danceable. It's one of my favourite Suzanne Vega LPs.
