Oh yes, those are yum, yum! From just the right era too, where tape formulation was at the peak of its quality, before things started to go downhill....
Marco.
Tapes are becoming silly priced these days. I have a few blanks lying around, but mostly have prerecorded ones. Still listen to them and enjoy it, but I still like minidiscs. they are damn near indestructable and can be re recorded so many times its not worth thinking about. Not analogue I know but damn handy. Not into portable file players. Maybe I should get into it???:eyebrows:
I have approx 13 Sony minidiscs. Some friendly chap did the recordings for me a couple years ago....They sound pretty decent!
Can you recommend me a simple, but yet high quality, good sounding mini disc player just for playing? I don't bother with recording!
Cheers.
S.
I stick with the Sony ones. They are all good, but much will depend on if any compression was used in the recording altrac 3 is usually the best to get. You can use the portable walkmans and plug the headphones into your stereo ...sound pretty good. I have 2 or three walkmans and either one or 2 big units...cant remember . If I have 2 you can have one. or if you want a walkman just say.
I'm inspired to dig out that box of old minidisc recordings (old vinyl recordings) and look for a player
I love my Pioneer MJ-D707 MiniDisc deck. I don't use it often, but recordings made via my Meridian 507 play back virtually as well as the original. It's a really good recording medium for my purposes. Certainly vastly better than any cassette deck I've used.
cant remember. it or they are stashed...might only be one now; cant remember now. but have been using the wee walkmans. I like them and have a net md as well which is a handy little job. will have a look next time I get out to the studio.

I used to use omething like this to run it when connected to my stereo(walkman) as it saved on batteries it uses a 3 volt dc psu
On eBay MJ-D707. Looks tidy!

Pair of DM5s being sold by a colleague of mine. A bit scruffy but working OK.

Good start price Shane, i prefer the 'D5' tho..
A good High Compliance cartridge..He's got two of these. If it wernt Gold '412 II' but instead the Black & Silver '412 IIISE' i would have gone for it..

They don't look much & i know they are only 5" drivers but those 'Warwicks' are really nice sounding speakers..
I'd have been interested more if he had listed the speakers & stands separate at say £70, although a trip to Glasgow to cart speakers may be a bit too much. anyways I dont need em as I got the Tannoys. Thought some of the Glasgow lads may have been interested.
Well they are not the proper stand + they are too low..

These NOS boxed, Philips 9710 full range drivers will fetch a pretty penny I reckon.

Look minty mint Geoff . What do you reckon to the sensitivity? 100 dB?
Just found the spec. I was spot on: http://rutcho.com/speaker_drivers/ph..._9710m_01.html
This would have tempted me if I didn't had the Sugden!

Keep the Suggie ;)
haha.. Are you sure it's what it says it is? Looks a familiar shape.
To rain on the joke, checking the price of all 334 others sold, they are normally £20.99 so this price is obviously to stop people from buying whilst they are out of stock whilst keeping the listing live.
I think I was being hopelessly niave and hopeful when I started watching this at 99p... thinking I might be able to snap it up at the last second:

Stellavox TD88 reel to reel. The build quality looks amazing!
I've got a very similar demagnetiser bought as new from a boot sale about twenty five years ago for £1. Very handy for demagnetising all those fuses and mains plug pins & cables, especially the directional ones. :D
Neat little SMSL DAC. listing ends tomorrow morning and it looks as though it may go cheap. I believe these are quite decent.

I am intrigued are these any good ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2315095665...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Think they were designed for home cinema use.
No. They are as Grant describes and for small PA systems. I tried a pair ('cos they were cheap) and they're horribly coloured due to poor damping and they lack anything ressembling bass due to the small box and high resonance light paper cone with stiff surround.
Ok I will give them a miss then...
The System 800 I am still on the look out for but the pair on eBay are asking too much... I reckon on £300 ' ish for a pair...;)
Think the DC6 was a bit better and sure they did a floorstanding version as well. My 637's are what you'd like I think.
I also know that the AMS8 is supposed to be a very good speaker but the only pair I've seen are an Active pair and I have no idea if they are any good and how on earth I would use an 'Active' speaker... :D
No, I sourced them locally Bev. Not actually using them currently as the way my system is situated the produce so much tight bass the are reflecting off the wall and ornaments lol. will have to move the system, or move on the speakers  PS, they are exceptionally good if you get the chance of a set at decent money. Think the ones on the bay were overpriced
Just looked and he reduced the price to 275 and sold them.
