It just seems if it's not one thing it's another at the moment... but he is a tough cookie.. I have no idea how he copes with it all
However we did visit his Oncology consultant on Monday and the trial drug seems to be doing wonders for his CLL so there is hope there ;)

A re-chip of the EMS and a couple of other bits would more than double the power output. 90bhp to 190bhp, could be interesting with suitable suspension & brake upgrades. They're strong engines and this one's only got 47k under its belt. 250k is not unusual on these.

What are the first jobs a sensible bloke does when another motor arrives? Apart from the obvious, like making sure it's safe to drive and has oil, fuel and coolant, etc.
Well. Make sure the jack and wheelbrace are the right ones and work. Next, chances are the wheel nuts will be on well tight, so loosen them with a suitably long wrench and then re-tighten using the brace that comes with the car. 'Cos if you have a puncture that's all you'll have available to undo them with and at least then you will be able to. Finally, if the spare wheel is slung under the car, make sure the threaded release on the spare wheel holder can be undone using the wheelbrace, because being exposed they often rust up solid. Free off and grease everything!
