Released in 2011 but recorded in '59 when Fred was already passed 50. This is north Mississippi hill country blues at its finest. Just recorded at a neighbours house but, boy its got everything we came to expect from him.. think he used a neck from a Gibsons gin bottle for the slide.

Gregory sings the songs of Nat King Cole, which would be fine as Porter has a lovely voice, but the recording is, IMO, let down by the most syrupy string sound of the London Studio Orchestra. Definitely not to my taste - shame!
So as an antidote the next record played went in the complete opposite direction with:

Good ‘ol down to earth blues with lyrics, which at times make it obvious it’s the sort of thing that would have been performed in the city brothels at the time.

A few issues with small scratches on a few tracks.
First is probably the worst.
Shame as its hard to come by. Still ive done a copy for posterity. Recorded in 50's, jimmy rogers with buds, big and little walter, muddy waters, otis spann etc recorded this after a full session of other stuff..
Some great tracks especially soppy drunk.

I like it.
For me, he has one of the best tenor sounds around, and in my view he has THE best soprano sound of anyone, currently.
So it was great to hear both. And he uses the natural reverb/echo of the church to great effect.
