Martin, you may well be correct, but I'm not sure why having holes in the back would render these worthless. That was a common way of tuning the bass end of things at one time. I've found some interesting drive units in old school, community centre and church hall speakers in the past.

Yes, it was an MA25 modified for the BBC to use with KEF speakers. That much is in the Radford article in The Knowledge along with a photo
