This is very different and is aptly named. I put it here as I think it is so out there that Jazz is more appropriate. It is strangely good, in an almost hypnotic way, several of Burning Star Core's albums have been compared to Soft Machine and have had favourable reviews. The driving force is Chih-Fu Spencer Yeh a violinist and uses it with various electronics to create sounds and also with other musicians and instruments.

Not quite sure about this one. I like Porter's voice, but on this album he sounds a like an average 'torch singer'.

I know where you guys are coming from, especially in terms of the arrangements, but no way has GP got a suitable voice for opera - he doesn't have the range, for starters, and it's totally not his style.
What I like is the richness and 'honeyed' tones of his voice, and the 'humanity' and emotion he injects into his vocal delivery, which I agree suits some material better than others. For me, he's still, without question, one of the great voices of the modern era.

Yes, that sums up GP very well. I think he would be better perhaps singing Blues material. His voice is similar to that of the late Mississsippi John Hurt; not so much in the richness of tone, but in the sweetness and humanity of delivery.Quote:

Without doubt he BEST music documentary I've seen. NO talking heads or commentary, just an uncut view into 2 live Gospel performances by The Queen herself with James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir.
An amazing treat into this world. Not a dry eye in the house when the lights came up!!
