The plug on mine is moulded onto the coiled lead, whereas the plug on my Koss ESP-6 is a separate item, soldered onto the lead and attached by a simple cable crimp.
The moulded on plug makes me now doubt the vintage. :scratch:

Ah ok, mate. The plug looks pretty much like any other generic moulded one (onto a coiled lead). It's nothing special, but then back in 1976, 'fancy connectors' hadn't happened yet...

I'd like to try the Shure, as I hate spending big bucks on carts, any advice on finding the right one and what stylus to use with it? Currently use a 401 with the Mayware tonearm, or 1210 gr with 750D.
It's not so much as getting "the right one" , it's more about how it's set up. You need to get decent heavy headshell, good tonearm compliance, and also that the Shure "sees" the correct amount of capacitance. Then you've got to set the bugger up. Overall you should be in for a treat but it might be a bit costlier than what you might think.

I'm not sure that the Mayware would be the best arm for an SC35C, as that tends to like a high-mass arm. However, you could certainly try it, as the cartridge doesn't cost much (if you can still find one, as they've now been discontinued), and you could implement the rider weight, as Shane outlined on your thread about tonearms.
Failing that, another recommendation, which I think would work really well on your arm would be a Goldring G800 Super-E. The G800 has a similar sonic signature to the SC35C, but the Super-E with its high-compliance would work really well on your arm.
However. if you'd like to try something modern, available brand new, which sounds really good and offers excellent SPPV, then consider a Nagaoka MP100 or MP110: https://www.musonic.co.uk/index.php?...products_id=31
Those really punch above their weight, and IMO, sound more musical and tonally richer than their Ortofon or AT counterparts.

Thank you fellows, how about using the Shure with the Jelco 750? I also had a Nag cart - the mp200 but it 'broke', I stupidly chucked it and am now left with a brand new stylus, but having to fork out £300 for another cart! (of course that will come with another stylus).Quote:

To answer your question about what's the best stylus to use with the SC35C, IMO it's a genuine NOS one. The aftermarket varieties with posh tips, such as those from Jico sound quite different, but IMO, and for my tastes, a bit 'too hi-fi', and for me that's not what the Shure is about.
You don't want to spoil or alter its ballsy 'fun' sound, which IMO is the case with anything fitted other than a NOS stylus. Certainly don't touch modern replacements of such with a bargepole, as the quality is shocking!
If you decide to take a punt on the Shure, I can sort you out with a body and a NOS stylus to fit, as I have spares. Just PM me if you're interested and I'll do you a deal:cool:

Ok, in terms of cartridges, yes I think that *in some areas* an MP200 would outperform the Shure. However, in the areas you mention, 60s rock and stuff, defo not. That's where the Shure excels!
