One word of warning: if the SSD is a smaller capacity than the HD it's replacing, this won't work. You will need to shrink the volume to smaller than the SSD (e.g. shrink the HD volume to 115GB for a 120GB SSD) before you create the image backup. You can Google for how to do this, there are tons of resources out there.

Cool, thanks Martin. I have been thinking about acquiring an SSD for a while now, however now that prices are so low it would be silly to prevaricate over it any longer ;)
