I think Martin means the guy with the advert is an idiot, Barry.
All he appears to be doing is attempting to set an expectation of what the item is worth. It's called 'price norming', you attach a higher than true value price to something in an attempt to drive up the price towards that level.
It's basic sales psychology 101.
I have just recently blotted my copybook on ebay with a "neutral". The grievance was that I wouldn't combine postage. Because if I had - according to the new Royal Mail pricing structure - I would have had to charge the buyer 30pence MORE for P&P than if I sent them out as two seperate packets.
Makes me despair!
