Classic hi-fi components

Pulling away from all this ancient stuff the in reality sounds a bit medicore :sofa:

out of the blue. tonight a member of the wife's family asked me if they knew some Hi-Fi that thye could buy cos every stereo they bought sounded cack!

Amazing really. I had some spare stuff in the back room that i was gonna tip: Sony 222ES CD player, Cambridge Audio 'P55' amp, Mission '737R' Speekas should do it, but it just goes to show dunnit! should wipe the floor with what he's had!

Cambridge P55? I always wanted the P40 when it first came out. Just loved that slim-line case and clean styling. (Cambridge were, I think, the first UK audio company to use a toroidal transformer.) And it got good reviews. Couldn't afford it then, nor could I when it evolved into the P50 and then the P60.

I have a Cambridge T55 tuner, was the P55 the matching amp André?

If all goes to plan, my RAM 150s will be driven by a P55 in my "cheap as chips" system, Andre. I reckon they should be a good match, but who knows. All part of the fun! :)

No the 'T55' belongs to the older designs you mentioned.

I have a T55 and P50. The tuner needs some fresh caps but sounds very good on a decent signal and the amp sounds like a 'period' transistor amp of the time it was made..

I've still got a C100 preamp. I kept it as it's very flexible with both active and passive outputs.

Kept my NAD 1240 preamp as well

At the risk of being labeled a pedant, the amp shown is marked P50. The tuner shown is the T55, same as the one I bought off eBay for about £20 - £30 (can't remember precisely how much).

I like the sound of the T55, though I not sure how the P40, 50 or 60 integrated amps would compare these days. :scratch:
