Lol - JC and you are 'townies', and have been living/working for too long in or around big cities, hence why your views on that matter are jaundiced!;)
I agree with that premise on the majority of today's overcrowded roads, but not when you have access to the wide-open and often empty roads (especially now) found in North and West Wales, and also in many parts of Scotland, outwith of the environs of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Probably also in certain parts of Devon and Cornwall, or Suffolk/East Anglia.
Honestly, in certain places up here, I could drive for MILES on end, at 70MPH or above, and encounter no hold ups - or depending on the time of day, often any other bugger on the road... That's why I love driving nice cars, which reward you and make driving a pleasure, and also living somewhere where such joys are still possible in today's otherwise rat-race world!:)
