The Cruel Sea. Jack Hawkins, Donald Sinden, Denholm Elliott and Stanley Baker are the top stars along with the lovely Virginia McKenna as the leggy lovely, I think it was.
Released in 1953 and directed by Charles Frend who also gave us The Long Arm, and Scott of the Antartic. Based on the fabulous book by Nicholas Monsarrat. The film was shot on location in the Plymouth's Naval Dockyard and the English Channel. Scenes showing the sailors in the water were shot in the open-air water-tank at Denham Studios.
The film was both a commercial and critical success, especially in the United States.
