Cavalcanti directs an adaptation of a short story by Graham Greene. A favourite film, for me this is a tribute to the determination and resilience of my Grandparents' generation who stood firm when the whole world thought they were done for. Super theme tune by William Walton (from 'A Wartime Sketchbook' (1941/2)) and excellent performances all round. Even features our own Gloucestershire Regiment as extras. The script's a corker too ~

Yes that is a classic, watched it quite recently. I love it how crossing their sevens on the gambling chit is how they were given away. No genuine Engishman would ever cross a seven, far too continental,

The bit in battle of britain is cut out not when on telly when the polish pilot parachutes in after being shot down... He says good afternoon in a heavy accent, and the farmer shoves a pitchfork under his nose and relies something like. Good afternoon indeed you bosch bastard :eyebrows: one of my fav bits of film and they cut it as Gerry didnt like it
